The Ruins <strong>of</strong> Achelos<br />
Moreover, when <strong>the</strong>y learn <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Stoyanov Library, <strong>the</strong>y absolutely want to<br />
salvage any valuable tome that might have<br />
survived since <strong>the</strong> times <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> invasion.<br />
They <strong>of</strong>fer good pay (50 royals plus a full<br />
share <strong>of</strong> any treasure for each character),<br />
and <strong>the</strong>ir mission is available from <strong>the</strong><br />
beginning, but <strong>the</strong>y insist on bringing<br />
along <strong>the</strong>ir “guides” and even <strong>the</strong>ir maids<br />
(unless <strong>the</strong>re are several female PCs).<br />
Bishop Sokolov: retrieve <strong>the</strong> Bell <strong>of</strong><br />
Chardastes from <strong>the</strong> Ca<strong>the</strong>dral. The<br />
mission is <strong>of</strong>fered immediately: Bishop<br />
Sokolov believes that <strong>the</strong> Bell <strong>of</strong><br />
Chardastes might be still preserved within<br />
<strong>the</strong> vaults <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ca<strong>the</strong>dral. Thus, he his<br />
willing to pay up to 1000 royals for <strong>the</strong><br />
retrieval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> holy artifact. He also sends<br />
his assistant, Marina Kolarovic, with <strong>the</strong><br />
party.<br />
If <strong>the</strong> PCs are successful, and <strong>the</strong> Slums<br />
have been secured, Bishop Sokolov will<br />
ask <strong>the</strong> PCs to secure <strong>the</strong> Ca<strong>the</strong>dral area<br />
as well, to allow him to restore <strong>the</strong><br />
Ca<strong>the</strong>dral to its function. He <strong>of</strong>fers 100<br />
royals to each character for this job.<br />
Lord Kaerin Penhaligon: <strong>the</strong> main civil<br />
authority in Nova Achelos, Lord Kaerin<br />
<strong>of</strong>fers several quests. First <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m is to<br />
clean <strong>the</strong> Riverside Slums from <strong>the</strong><br />
monsters that dwell <strong>the</strong>re. He <strong>of</strong>fers a<br />
bounty <strong>of</strong> 20 royals for each monster <strong>of</strong><br />
medium size, and 50 royals for a monster<br />
<strong>of</strong> large size. Monsters <strong>of</strong> small size fetch<br />
only a bounty <strong>of</strong> 15 cronas. This quest is<br />
<strong>of</strong>fered publicly on <strong>the</strong> Townhall board,<br />
and is already available when <strong>the</strong> PCs<br />
arrive in Nova Achelos.<br />
Once <strong>the</strong> Slums have been cleared and <strong>the</strong><br />
undead threat has been discovered, Lord<br />
Kaerin summons any party that<br />
cooperated to that operation (having<br />
earned a bounty <strong>of</strong> 100 royals is sufficient<br />
for this purpose), and proposes a clean-up<br />
operation at <strong>the</strong> Achelos River Fort. He<br />
<strong>of</strong>fers 50 royals to each involved PC or<br />
NPC, plus <strong>the</strong> same bounty as for <strong>the</strong><br />
Slums for individual monsters.<br />
If <strong>the</strong> PCs obtain information about <strong>the</strong><br />
Hidden Market and <strong>the</strong> sale <strong>of</strong> a<br />
mysterious, but powerful, item, Lord<br />
Kaerin asks <strong>the</strong>m to find <strong>the</strong> Hidden<br />
Market, infiltrate it during <strong>the</strong> next<br />
meeting, and discover, if possible, <strong>the</strong><br />
identity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leader <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Achelos<br />
Outlaws. He <strong>of</strong>fers 60 royals to each PC to<br />
undertake <strong>the</strong> mission, and a bounty <strong>of</strong><br />
500 royals for <strong>the</strong> identity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
mysterious bandit lord. O<strong>the</strong>r information<br />
items, such as <strong>the</strong> identity <strong>of</strong> lesser bandit<br />
chiefs or Dark Triad cultists, will be<br />
rewarded -- in a range from 20 to 120<br />
royals.<br />
At <strong>the</strong> same time, <strong>the</strong>re is also <strong>the</strong> need to<br />
produce better maps <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Cruth</strong><br />
<strong>Lowlands</strong>. The Karameikan authorities will<br />
<strong>of</strong>fer contracts to map specific areas. In<br />
general, a reward <strong>of</strong> 10 royals per map<br />
hex explored will be <strong>of</strong>fered. Priority will<br />
be given to <strong>the</strong> area between <strong>the</strong> Gustos<br />
and Achelos rivers. The same type <strong>of</strong><br />
mission can be <strong>of</strong>fered by o<strong>the</strong>r parties,<br />
especially Lord Alexius Korrigan in<br />
Specularum, and even Townmistress<br />
Sascia, though <strong>the</strong> Near Achelos Woods<br />
and <strong>the</strong> Blight Swamp are more likely<br />
target in those cases.<br />
Finally, <strong>the</strong>re are many monsters roaming<br />
<strong>the</strong> countryside around Achelos. Lord<br />
Kaerin will periodically set new bounties.<br />
He starts <strong>of</strong>fering bounties <strong>of</strong> this kind only<br />
after <strong>the</strong> River Fort is taken -- he cannot<br />
afford it until <strong>the</strong> city itself is more or less<br />
under Karameikan control. Every week<br />
<strong>the</strong>reafter, update <strong>the</strong> bounty list using <strong>the</strong><br />
following table. Each monster or group has<br />
an initial bounty equal to <strong>the</strong> total XP<br />
value.<br />
Bounty list variation (1d4):<br />
1. Add one new bounty, selecting it on<br />
<strong>the</strong> next table. Roll 2d4-1. If <strong>the</strong><br />
Iron Ring is chased from <strong>the</strong><br />
Enclave in <strong>the</strong> merchant district or<br />
<strong>the</strong> PCs have botched <strong>the</strong> Hidden<br />
Market mission, roll 2d4 instead.<br />
2. Increase <strong>the</strong> bounty for one<br />
monster by 1d6x10%, as it scores<br />
a hit against <strong>the</strong> Karameikan<br />
settlers.<br />
3. No changes for this week.<br />
