The Ruins <strong>of</strong> Achelos<br />
fraternity, is essentially independent, so<br />
communications are less than perfect.<br />
Basco is primarily interested in magical<br />
knowledge, so he may join a party that<br />
aims at exploring ancient ruins or<br />
recovering lost knowledge, even if this<br />
means setting his mission aside.<br />
Into <strong>the</strong> Ruins<br />
The ruins <strong>of</strong> Achelos encompass <strong>the</strong><br />
following areas:<br />
● The settlement <strong>of</strong> Nova Achelos,<br />
which is <strong>the</strong> staging ground for<br />
expeditions into <strong>the</strong> city as well as<br />
<strong>the</strong> only section <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> city initially<br />
controlled by <strong>the</strong> Karameikan<br />
government and its allies.<br />
● The Riverside slums, nearest to<br />
Nova Achelos, and <strong>the</strong> least<br />
dangerous neighborhood (most<br />
threats here are unintelligent<br />
scavengers).<br />
● The Merchant District, which is<br />
controlled by <strong>the</strong> Iron Ring and<br />
used as a centre for slave traffic.<br />
● The Noble Estates, which include<br />
<strong>the</strong> following locales:<br />
○ The Ca<strong>the</strong>dral <strong>of</strong><br />
Chardastes, occupied by <strong>the</strong><br />
priests <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dark Triad and<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir goblinoid flunkies.<br />
○ The Stoyanov Library<br />
○ The Artho Mansion<br />
● The Achelos River Fort, where a<br />
mysterious but powerful Vampire<br />
Lord resides.<br />
● The Ruins <strong>of</strong> Castle Ivanovich,<br />
inhabited by an Ogre clan.<br />
● The Old Graveyard, where a lowkey<br />
magical war <strong>of</strong> attrition<br />
between <strong>the</strong> Vampire Lord and an<br />
emissary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sons <strong>of</strong> Night is<br />
taking place<br />
○ The Tomb <strong>of</strong> Achelos II<br />
Ivanovich, resting place <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Achelos kings.<br />

Nova Achelos<br />
The new settlement is located across <strong>the</strong><br />
old city walls, just south <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Achelos<br />
river. It comprises several salvaged<br />
buildings and a tent-town, protected by a<br />
wooden palisade.<br />
1. River Gate: <strong>the</strong> main entrance to<br />
Nova Achelos is a simple wooden<br />
gate, with a small guard tower<br />
manned by two crossbowmen. The<br />
gate is guarded by members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
5th Division.<br />
2. City Gate: <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r gate into<br />
Nova Achelos opens on <strong>the</strong> ruins <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> old town. It is heavily guarded<br />
by both Green Company<br />
mercenaries and Knights <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Griffon. The two groups get along<br />
fairly well.<br />
3. Town Hall: this building, once <strong>the</strong><br />
customs house <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kingdom <strong>of</strong><br />
Achelos, has been salvaged and<br />
repaired by Evgeniev’s men, like<br />
most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs within <strong>the</strong><br />
palisade. It is now occupied by Lord<br />
Kaerin Penhaligon and his<br />
entourage. Two Knights <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Griffon guards <strong>the</strong> entrance at all<br />
times, and two squires act as<br />
