A gable-fronted style of conservatory adds a sense of grandeur to any home
With a high roof slope and the same floor space as a Georgian, a Gable offers excellent use of internal space. The front panel of the roof
remains upright rather than sloping back to the centre as on a Georgian, creating a feeling of great height within the conservatory.

The Georgian design is ever more popular, mainly due to the way it
optimises space, as the 90 o corners are perfect for sofas and tables.
Many buyers favour the Georgian which is a flat-fronted style that offers
excellent use of floor space due to a square or rectangular internal shape.
Each side of the roof slopes back to the centre and the resulting contemporary style is suited to the majority of properties.

• three facet style – a bay front that has three main windows that give an angled appearance.
• five facet style – a bay front with five main windows creating a more rounded appearance.
Victorian is a popular & versatile, yet traditional style of conservatory.
Its distinguishing architectural feature, a bay front, with either an angled (3 bay) or slightly curved (5 bay) front, combined with a steeply
pitched roof and ornate ridge details give this style of conservatory a more classical appearance.

The pitch of the roof is variable, so that a shallow pitch could fit under a low bungalow eaves, whilst a steeper pitch would
match the roof of a terraced or detached house.
The lean-to style could be for those who prefer clean understated lines.
Traditional or contemporary, this style is ideal for properties with limited space under the eaves or an awkward area in which to fit
a conservatory.

The P & T shapes take their name from the plan view of each design
The ideal style for a larger conservatory, a P-shape can combine for example a lean-to and a Victorian, to create a versatile style that can
be used as two different living areas. Due to the proportions needed to achieve both the P & T-shapes, the styles are better suited to larger
properties, giving a versatile floor space and impressive result to any home.

Conservatories that are extremely large and require additional support to take the weight of the roof are known as large span
conservatories and require a portal framework.

The uses for portals are endless – from magnificent swimming pool enclosures
to large commercial extensions; anything is possible due to the flexibility and
advanced engineering of the large span system.
Choosing a lantern style conservatory ensures drama and style, representing
the grandeur of times gone by. The two-tiered effect adds a new dimension to
your conservatory and the extra ceiling height adds to the feeling of light and
space. Lanterns are typically suited to older style period properties and are
often chosen for swimming pool enclosures or larger conservatories and can
be built in conjunction with a portal frame.

Climate control
It’s vital to the maintenance of a comfortable
environment - ventilation is often overlooked
by some manufacturers, but Ultraframe’s
roof systems take care of it.
The type of ventilation needed is specific
to each conservatory, based on many
considerations such as size, shape and
most importantly, aspect in relation to the
sun. South facing conservatories need to
take into account the direct sunlight they
receive in summer, whilst north-facing sites
need to consider heating options for the
colder months of the year. Other factors
to consider include overshadowing of the
conservatory from obstacles such as trees
and buildings and the severity of wind and
snow in your area.
If all this sounds complicated, let your
supplier help you select the best ventilation
options for your conservatory.
Ventilation is key within the structure of
conservatory roofs, so you can be assured
that by choosing a conservatory with an
Ultraframe roof you’re protecting your
conservatory from the elements and the
potential for problems.
By specifying a conservatory with an

High performance glass
If you’re specifically wanting to bring a lot

roof glass works by deflecting heat from
the sun in Summer to keep the inside of
the conservatory cooler and by retaining
the warmth from heating appliances in
the Winter. It also features a true self clean
coating that uses the power of the sun to
break down organic deposits and then uses
rain water to wash it clean away.

Polycarbonate roof glazing is a lower
cost alternative to glass but still provides
excellent thermal properties and aesthetics.

Ultraselect is a decorative strip that adds
classical elegance. The strips simply click
into place where the roof joins the side
frames enabling you to change the design
if you wish.

use - is the most insulated glazed roof
that it is possible to buy. For example:
The bars that run between the panels in
the roof of your conservatory are covered
with protective top cappings and through
the use of chambered technology aid the

Tie bars
A tie bar is sometimes specified to help support
the weight of a large roof or one that is fitted with
glass. The position of the tie bar is dictated by
engineering principles, and so they must be fitted.
See p10 for a large picture of a roof featuring a tie
bar. Ultraframe, however has developed a range
of structural components to remove the necessity
of tie bars in many projects. Please speak to your

Customer Satisfaction is crucial
Network VEKA surveys every single customer,
to see how good a job its members are doing.
Once your installation is complete and your installer
has registered it for you, you will receive a customer
satisfaction questionnaire.
It is important you fill this in.
Apart from activating your insurance-backed guarantee,
it also means you can let Network VEKA know how
happy you are with your home improvement.
Be honest! We have worked hard for our excellent
reputation and we’re working even harder to maintain it.
Within 28 days of completing the questionnaire and
sending it back to Network VEKA, you will receive
a certificate detailing the work carried out.
Your Network VEKA guarantee can, for a nominal fee,
be passed on to the new owners of your home. So not
only are the new owners covered but you also have
an added benefit to present to potential buyers.

Q. How safe is my guarantee?
A. Every Network VEKA member must offer every customer our unique,
Ten Year Insurance-Backed Guarantee. This ensures that your installer’s
guarantee lives on, even in the unlikely event that your Network VEKA
member company should cease to trade for a number of reasons.
Q. Are all insurance-backed guarantees this safe?
A. Not necessarily. Firstly, the guarantee is given by Network VEKA
rather than the installation company and secondly, our guarantee
is supported by an insurance policy in our name, which covers our
liabilities under the guarantees we give.
Q. Does the guarantee cover my deposit or any instalments
I may have paid?
A. Where a member asks for a deposit or stage payments, you will
be offered a separate guarantee to cover these payments. These are
also insurance-backed and are intended to cover deposits and stage
payments for up to three months from date of order (deposits) or up
to four months from that date (instalments). Full details are available
on request. (Be sure to complete and return your Deposit and Stage
Payment Protection Guarantee request form).
Q. What happens to the guarantee if we move house?
A. Your Network VEKA guarantee can, for a nominal fee, be passed
on to the new owners of your home. So not only are the new owners
covered but you also have an added benefit to present to potential
buyers. Please contact your installation company to ensure that your
guarantee can be transferred.
Q. How do I know I can trust the company I am dealing with?
A. Network VEKA not only sets strict standards for every member, it
even vets prospective members for financial stability before allowing
them to join. Only those companies that uphold the standards are
allowed to continue as members. Also, every member’s employee
who visits your home must carry a Network VEKA identity card as your
assurance that the company really is a member.
Q. How can I be the sure the company and its installers
are up to standard?
A. Network VEKA demands that every member company’s staff are
trained to high standards in all relevant areas, such as surveying,
installation and Building Regulations. But it doesn’t end there: Network
VEKA also regularly audits every member to make sure they are still up
to scratch.
Q. How can I trust the quality of the materials used?
A. The structure and rules of Network VEKA mean that all PVC-U
frames used by an installer member must not only be made of extrusion
products from VEKA plc - one of the world’s most technically-advanced
PVC-U companies - but also be manufactured by an approved and
tested Network VEKA fabricator member. That way, you can be assured
of an unbroken chain of quality control from raw materials all the way to
your home.
Q. What if I am not happy with anything relating to the installation?
A. Every customer is invited to complete our Customer Satisfaction
Questionnaire and each one of these, from every single installation
(around 16,000 a year) is collated to give a constant running check
on every member. To give you some idea of the standards set,
Network VEKA members collectively score 97-98% as opposed to the
recognised industry average for all home improvements of less than
85%. Of course, any problem with the product itself is covered by our
guarantees as well as your statutory rights.
Q. How long will my installation last?
A. Many speak of PVC-U products such as windows, doors and
conservatories lasting a lifetime because, unlike wood, there are no
natural factors such as rotting or warping to limit their life. In practical
terms, the industry standard for a ‘lifetime’ is defined as 35 years or
more, assuming a little occasional maintenance. PVC-U has been used
as a window frame material since the 1960s and many of the very
earliest frames are still going strong.
Q. Will my installation require any maintenance?
A. PVC-U will never need painting and will give many years of service
with only the minimal amount of maintenance. You can keep everything
as good as new with just an occasional wipe with slightly soapy water
followed by a rinse and the occasional spot of oil on the hinges and
joints of the mechanism (we recommend light oil rather than the spray
variety). Once your installation is complete, you will receive our free
booklet with all the advice you need on maintenance. Please note:
proper maintenance in accordance with this guide is also a conditional
factor in the Network VEKA guarantees.
Q. What should I do if I am pleased with everything the
member has done?
A. Tell your friends! When an organisation like Network VEKA is based
so strongly on the recommendation of happy customers, then those
recommendations are extremely important to members. In fact, they
are very proud that a high proportion of their work comes from such
recommendations – far higher than the industry average. It’s just one
more reason why all Network VEKA members are committed to to
doing their very best – every time.
Q. When should I receive communication from Network VEKA?
A. You should receive communication within 28 days of your order. In the
event you do not receive your Network VEKA notifi cation and ‘Customer
Satisfaction Questionnaire’ please contact your installer. If you have returned
your questionnaire to Network VEKA and haven’t received your Guarantee
Certifi ctate within 28 days please contact Network VEKA on 01282 473170.
Your home improvement is not protected by Network VEKA until it has been
registered and you have received a membership number.
Our Insurance-Backed Guarantees are subject to certain limits and
