<strong>Daily</strong> <strong>Life</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Ancient</strong> <strong>Egypt</strong><br />

The ancient <strong>Egypt</strong>ians were fasc<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g people, and thanks to the movies, are<br />

often misunderstood. The ancient <strong>Egypt</strong>ians were not <strong>in</strong> love with death, but<br />

with life! They enjoyed their life to the fullest. They worked very hard, but<br />

saved time to enjoy family, friends, music, parties, swimm<strong>in</strong>g, fish<strong>in</strong>g, hunt<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

sail<strong>in</strong>g, and especially their children, all of which were very important to the<br />

ancient <strong>Egypt</strong>ians.<br />

In ancient <strong>Egypt</strong>, children were the heart of the family. If a couple could not<br />

have a child, they adopted a child.<br />

Children were taught to be k<strong>in</strong>d and honest, to respect their parents, to help<br />

with the family bus<strong>in</strong>ess, and to care for the elder members of their family.<br />

It was important that children learn to be car<strong>in</strong>g. The ancient <strong>Egypt</strong>ians<br />

believed <strong>in</strong> "ma'at" - order and justice. They spent a lifetime try<strong>in</strong>g to be fair<br />

and just at all times. The ancient <strong>Egypt</strong>ians believed that you could only reach<br />

your afterlife if your heart was light. The only way your heart would be light is<br />

if you had spent a lifetime be<strong>in</strong>g k<strong>in</strong>d and honest. Anyone and everyone, from<br />

the pharaoh on down, who made a mistake or lost their temper made up for it<br />

by do<strong>in</strong>g good deeds to balance the scale.

locat<strong>in</strong>g various pieces of <strong>in</strong>formation on ONE of the follow<strong>in</strong>g topics.<br />

Beg<strong>in</strong> your research with a key word outl<strong>in</strong>e. After you have completed your key word<br />

outl<strong>in</strong>e, complete a fused outl<strong>in</strong>e. Once you have f<strong>in</strong>ished your fused outl<strong>in</strong>e complete<br />

your rough notes <strong>in</strong> your notebook, you will need to type up a 150-200 word paragraph<br />

us<strong>in</strong>g a COW or classroom work station. Include a bibliography.<br />

If you are unsure of how to write a correct bibliography, you can go to Mr. Stel’s website<br />

and load the How to write a bibliography or Bibliography Chart document under the<br />

Social Studies website.<br />
