Discriminating craftsmen know that shellac 

makes a good (non-waterproof) finish 

coat, as well as a terrific sealer promoting 

excellent “hold out” for your finish coats. 

Shellac is also renowned as a barrier coat 

to seal sap woods, knotholes, resins, 

grease and oil marks, etc. It can be used 

under almost any type of finish! Also works 

great as a “size coat” or wood conditioner 

to help prepare soft woods to absorb wood 

stains more evenly. Shellac is a very 

versatile finishing product. 

When purchasing “Gold Dust” shellac it 

will arrive to you in sealed containers for easy storage and extended shelf life. 

Simply measure out the amount that you need, add alcohol and your on your 

way to using shellac like so many craftsmen before you! Available in 1/2 

pound, 1 pound and bulk packages. 

Shellac Starter Kit 

Everything you need to get started! Our complete finishing 

kit includes everything you need to get started finishing with 

"Gold Dust" Shellac! Easy Choice Kit includes a 1/2 pound 

of "Gold Dust" Shellac, a quart of 200 Proof Shellac Thinner 

and a mixing cup with air tight lid. Simply mix up your 

shellac, allow it to sit for and hour and you're ready to get 

started finishing! This kit will make about 1 U.S. quart of 

shellac depending on the mix ratio that you choose. For a 2# 

cut (sealer, barrier coat) add 1/2 of the "Gold Dust" Shellac 

and all of the 200 Proof Alcohol. For a 4# cut (finish coats) 

add the entire 1/2 pound of "Gold Dust" Shellac to the 200 

Proof Alcohol. "Gold dust" is Lemon shellac and is a light 

yellow, to amber color. Easy to use versatile shellac - used 

for centuries - by discriminating craftsmen!
