MAGNESIUM SULPHATE HEPTAHYDRATE
(16% MgO - 32% SO 3 )
EPSOM SALT PURE, technical
Origin: EC
Product Description:
Magnesium Sulphate 16/32
16% MgO, water soluble magnesium oxide
32% SO 3,
water soluble sulphur trioxide (= 13 % S)
Chemical Analysis_
Typical w
Magnesium Sulphate Heptahydrate 49 %
-7H 2
O), calculated as MgSO 4
Water of crystallisation (H 2
O) 50.9 %
Physical Properties
pH (10 % solution) approx. 7 at 20 dgr. C.
Solubility in water
w (MgSO 4
) = 25.8% at 20 dgr. C. (68 dgr. F.)
Storage
readily soluble, practically without residues; always vigorously stir the salt into water or solution
Bulk density approx. 950 kg/m 3
Bulk density (packed) approx. 1,070 kg/m 3
Angle of Repose
approx. 33 dgr.
Store at cool and dry place. Excessive storage pressure and large temperature fluctuations can result in caking, which
can be broken up by pounding of the bags.
Application
Is preferably used as a foliar fertilisation for higher yields and better quality.
It eliminates magnesium and sulphur deficiencies quickly and successfully.
When mixed with any plant protection products the recommendations of the plant protection manufacturers have to be
followed. This product is made from naturally occurring crude potassium salt and is permitted for use in organic farming
according to the Regulation (EEC) No 2092/91 and the Regulation (EC) No 2381/94.
Incongruent melting above 48.1°C with formation of MgSO 4 .6H 2 O and a saturated solution
of it.
Solubility:
Readily soluble in water, practically no residues left.
Saturation point: 25.8% MgSO 4 by weight at 20°C
Grain size: Standard: Predominantly between 0.1 and 3 mm
Fine cryst.: Mainly < 0.8 mm
Packing:
25 kg, 50 kg, 100 lb or big bags
Special Characteristics: Epsom salt, esp. when very pure and without any additives, is sensitive to variations of
temperature and humidity. At 20°C and a relative atmospheric moisture of < 45% it
gradually releases water and deliquesces. Epsom Salt transforms into MgSO 4 .6H 2
O below
Applications/Use:
a certain water vapour pressure according to temperature. It is not stable above 48.1°C.
If shipped in closed containers Epsom Salt after having been exposed to warm
temperatures recrystallizes as soon as the temperature decreases.
This recrystallization very often results in caking. Epsom salt normally contains less than 0.6
ppm vanadium, which is of essential importance in the manufacture of detergents.
1) quick-acting fertilizer (e.g. foliar sprays);
2) in construction, pulp and detergent industries;
3) for the production of certain plastics, adhesives, refractory materials, synthetic seawater,
pigments etc ...;
4) as cattle feed;
5) for flue gas desulphurization;
6) as a pure magnesium sulphate it is used for the manufacture of other Mg-compounds in
many branches of trade and industry.
