Those students whose pfrvsician. has
provided a written
recommendation for voice therapy.
Those students whose deviant voice

noted, by adults and peers as
atypical for age and sex.
Those students whose degree of
disorder is moderate to severe.
Those students who are unwilling or
unable to reduce vocal abuse after
a period of trial therapy.
Those students whose parents and
' teachers~are unwilling'or unable" to
modify the student's
cuitore/environment in order to
eliminate vocal abuse, and in
whom voics quality is unchanged
after a period of trial therapy.
STUDENTS WITH FLUENCY DISORDERS

Those students whose oral language
is characterized by repetitions of
speech sounds, words, or phrases.
Those students for whom
communication is an effort and
who demonstrate struggle,
avoidance, and otner maladaptive
coping behaviors.
Those students who are aware of
their nonfluencv.
Those students whose nonfluent
behaviors axe not observed across
environments.
Those students whose noafluency is
transitory, and mild and could be
viewed as part of the nonfiuency
that occurs frequently when
children begin school.
Those students who, after a period of
trial therapy, do not choose to
continue the therapy process; this
decision should be made jointly by
the student arid his parents.
