^ 6.5 Northern - no report 6.6 Interlake - Doug (see attached) 6.7 School Program Branch - Joanna Blais Talked about the reorganization of the department. Presented a review of the provincial ADAPs. (see attached) 7.0 New Business School-Based Action plans may soon be a requirement of all schools. Enclosed in the Regional Rep package is a copy for distribution to their divisions. Joanna will probably not be the rep from the department in the future. 7.1 Brian Law - Interdepartmental Committee Brain came to talk to us about Early Years Protocol (transitioning between pre-school and school). Winnipeg #1 has submitted a report regarding the medically complex and has developed a protocol for the medically fragile (find enclosed). We are invited to make submission/s to the committee either as a group or as individuals. Metro SSAAM has a Placement Process document available for the asking. 7.2 Restructuring Man Ed. (see 6.7) 7.3 Nominations for Honorary Life & certificate of Recognition Patti/Vivian Move that Bob Bell be presented with an Honorary Life Membership. CARRIED 7.4 Presentation - Dr, Judith Newman, Dean of Education, U of Manitoba Dr. Newman talked about her thoughts and wishes for the Faculty of Ed and teacher training. Some ideas she had were: - teacher training be a 2 year program after the initial 3 year first degree teachers specialize in early, middle or senior years training
- faculty must be "real" partners with schools - program may be in blocks of time with one of the blocks working with students with special needs - a range of programs at the masters level - create a culture for on-going learning for teachers - looking at the post baccalaureate program for inservice teacher training 7.5 Resolutions - Wayne A reminder that all resolutions should be sent to Wayne by September 3 0. 7.6 Constitutional Review Diana McKenzie & Anne Schmidt to form committee with Wayne to review constitution. 7.7 Kevin Siefert, Department head for Ed Psych U of Man Will meet with members of the executive in September to discuss special education re: pre-service training 7.8 Nominations for Provincial SSAAM Executive - Fran Fran will prepare a slate of nominees for next meeting. 7.9 Honorariums Patti/Fran Move that we pay $50.00 to Vivian's secretary for the work she did for SSAAM.
