2 The Southport School Welcome from the Parents & Friends On behalf of The Southport School Parents and Friends Association Inc., welcome and congratulations on the enrolment of your boy at TSS. The P&F is a very active organisation in supporting the School not only in funding but also with parent help across the whole range of activities offered by the School. There are some 11 sub-committees of the P&F that primarily ensures that the Boy's sporting and cultural activities remain viable. These groups are titled "The Friends Of" and there is no doubt you will be exposed to their efforts. Friends of groups include Prep, Rugby, Cricket, Tennis, Outdoor Education, Sailing, Music, Football and the list goes on, all these groups are under the control of Parents giving up their time to support the School and the Boys. I hope you too will join one or more of our groups as I can assure you the effort you put in will be far out weighed by the satisfaction you will gain from seeing the Boy’s enjoyment. I chaired several AGM’s this year of the support groups and it never ceases to amaze me how TSS parents continue to committee themselves to help provide a better school environment. Proudly the P&F continue to fund a large cross section of the School's requirements. The Friends of Groups receive funds each year for sporting equipment, musical instruments, guest artists and even a new rope course for Hidden Creek. The P&F, as a major project, air-conditioned the Chapel and in 2008 a new Prep change room and shower facility was built at the Prep oval from P&F funds together with Foundation funding. These funds are generated from the School Store which is operated by the P&F. All monies raised from sales at the Store go back into the School for the benefit of the Boy's. The Store carries not only clothing and gear for your son but also support clothing for Parents. Please feel free to shop for yourself at our Store, and wear the School colours when cheering your Son on. Again I welcome you to this great School; TSS is much more than just an educational intuition. In many ways it will become part of your everyday life not only while your Son is at the School but far beyond. As an Old Boy and Parent I encourage you to take every opportunity to embrace what this School will offer you. At times it will seem exhausting, but I can assure you it is all worthwhile. The time goes all too quick. Greg Rix P&F President P&F Functions Our P&F operates several functions to start the year with the aim of ensuring all parents, new and returning, have an opportunity to come together. One of these is the Welcome Cocktail Party. This is traditionally held on the first Friday back at School which this year falls on Friday January 28th and costs $25 a head. Your ticket covers hot and cold finger food and a welcome drink of Beer, Champagne or red or white wine. Soft drinks and water are also available. The location is The River Centre with the best view on the Gold Coast to watch the sunset and the lights of Surfers Paradise come on and you are welcome from 6.00pm Tickets are purchased at The Store by phoning Les on 5531 9823. Our Welcome Morning Teas are held on Thursday January 27th, your first day at School. This one is held in the Prep School in the Pearce Theatre at 9.00am to enable all parents another opportunity to meet some new faces. Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is usually held in March (the date is to be confirmed). Please refer to our website - http://www.tss.qld.edu.au/schoolorgs/parentsfriends/welcome.asp for further information and full details. Your P&F Committee looks forward to meeting you at one of these Term 1 functions
