4. Approval of the minutes of the 2009 Congress in Copenhagen Minutes approved by consensus. 5. Report of the President on the activities of the Executive Board The President started his report mentioning that 2009 and 2010 have been difficult years for the Nations and for the organisers but all competitions went well through good cooperation and big efforts. He mentioned that since the nations are informed every month through the pentathlon newsletter of his schedule, his visits and meetings and get detailed report on UIPM competitions he will only single out a few points: YOG – The YOG are a new competition in the Olympic movement and the 1 st YOG in Singapore was a big success. Georgina Harland was also there as a Role Model and she promoted MP. The YOG is a milestone for the development of each sport, therefore using the laser was a big success. Many important people from the IOC and the Olympic movement visited the MP competition and also tried the laser pistols. The Modern Pentathlon was addressed as the “flexible sport” and “the sport of new technology”. 2010 World Championships Chengdu, China – China did an investment of 88.000.000€ for building a great MP Centre. This centre was named “Pierre de Coubertin MP Centre of Chengdu”. China supports MP a lot. TV – The President thanked Slava Malishev for his work to have live coverage of the WC in Budapest and the WCF in Moscow in other countries. Thus, a new door opened for MP and MP has got better media statistics. The President thanked the organising committees for helping and supporting this action. World Cups – The WC in Medway provided in addition to a top sport event an excellent Culture and Education programme. The President thanked the organisers, volunteers and Technical Delegates for their efforts and contribution. Support – The President reported that UIPM is trying to support the Nations with independent projects and projects through the Confederations. He added that the EB discussed and is preparing a plan to support the nations. In the following two years, according to the President, the UIPM will have to invest additionally in order to remain in the Olympic movement. 2011 and 2012 are very important years because in 2013 one sport will be removed from the Olympic programme by a vote of the IOC Executive Board and IOC President Jacques Rogge. He asked the Nations to work together for remaining in the Olympics. WADA – The President emphasized that the UIPM wants to educate athletes, young athletes and coaches. Nations should consider educating their athletes and coaches on health and doping. MASTERS – The President requested the NFs to support the Masters movement and encourage veterans to become members and participate. BIATHLE – The President also asked the NFs to organise Biathle competitions and use it as the basis for pentathlon. The Biathle World Championships in Dubai were organised to an excellent standard by Mihail Kousev, a former Bulgarian pentathlete. SCHOOL BIATHLON: The President requested the NFs to cooperate with the Ministries of Education of their countries in order to promote and apply the School Biathlon in their Schools. LOCOG – The President informed the Congress that the MP equestrian and combined event will be located in Greenwich Park at an excellent location. LOCOG and the local community are waiting for the decisions of this congress to continue planning. Peter Hart will be the new Competition Manager from 1 December 2010 replacing John Woodbridge.
