As accepted at the 2008 <strong>UIPM</strong> <strong>Congress</strong> the Executive Board submitted motions to allow further<br />
changes due to the impact of the Combined Event on the overall competition as described in STATUTES<br />
rule 6.1: Within the competences of the General Assembly as defined by Art 14 and 17 of the Statutes of<br />
the <strong>UIPM</strong> lie in particular: k) to decide on Competition Rules in the year of the Olympic Games, in other<br />
years only in cases of force majeure; several motions are proposed because of force majeure.<br />
General aspects<br />
MOTION 5:<br />
Rule 1.6.Order of the Events:<br />
Reason: Concerning minimum warm up period affecting the combined event and the other ones<br />
1.6.3 i) The LOC must provide pentathletes with a minimum warm-up period before each event as follows:<br />
Fencing: 30 mins, Swimming: 20 mins, Riding: 20 mins, Combined event: 20 minutes running and<br />
shooting. The warm-up period is considered to be an integral part of the competition. In the<br />
competition Finals, the warm-up areas are only at the disposal of those participants that have qualified<br />
for the Finals.<br />
ii) Coaches can assist the athletes in the warming up periods, but they must leave the FOP directly after<br />
the end of the warm up and before the start of the events and go to the designated areas (in Riding<br />
they can assist until the entrance to the competition arena).<br />

MOTION 6:<br />
Rule 1.20.2 Competition Results:<br />
Reason: Necessity to rule on this matter as it is an ORIS requirement (force majeure)<br />
1.20.2 If there is a tie in the total score or it is impossible to determine who crossed the finish line first, the<br />
winner is the pentathlete or team who has gained more first places in the five events.<br />
If there is still a tie, the pentathletes or team that won the Combined event will be declared the winner.<br />
1.20.2 i) If there is a tie in the total score or it is impossible to determine who crossed the<br />
finish line first, the athlete who is placed higher is the pentathlete or team who has gained more first<br />
places in the five events.<br />
If there is still a tie, the pentathlete or team that was best placed on the Combined event will be placed in<br />
the higher position<br />
ii) If there is a tie between 2 or more athletes after 2 events, and in order to establish<br />
the start order for Riding, the best placed in Fencing will be placed in the higher position; if there is still a<br />
tie,<br />
iii) The athlete with the best Swimming time will be placed higher; if the tie remains, the PWR position<br />
will decide.<br />
1.20.4 Teams with 3 athletes competing in the Final are placed ahead of teams with 2 athletes in the final;<br />
teams with 2 athletes competing in the final are placed before teams with only 1 athlete in the final;<br />
teams with no athletes in final are placed last.<br />
(Old1.20.4 becomes 1.20.5 and old 1.20.5 becomes 1.20.6)<br />
