LUNDY’S CONSISTENCY EARNS THE VICTORY<br />

Miller Takes Top Honors for First Time<br />

<strong>MYRTLE</strong> <strong>BEACH</strong>, <strong>SC—</strong> <strong>This</strong> <strong>week</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Junior</strong> <strong>Golf</strong> <strong>Tour</strong> (IJGT) traveled to Myrtle Beach,<br />

which is unofficially regarded as <strong>the</strong> golf capital of <strong>the</strong> world. The 36-hole stroke play event was played on<br />

Myrtlewood <strong>Golf</strong> Club’s PineHills Course, which played as a great location for families to be on <strong>the</strong> Easter<br />

<strong>week</strong>end. The participants had to face windy conditions on both days, but were still able to post some quality<br />

scores.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> Boys 13-19 Division, Patrick Lundy of Little River, SC recorded an even par tournament total of 144 to<br />

take home top honors. After Saturday Lundy held a share of <strong>the</strong> lead, while seven o<strong>the</strong>rs were within three<br />

strokes of his opening round 72. On Sunday, Lundy started off hot on <strong>the</strong> front nine, while o<strong>the</strong>rs made <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

own attempts to catch him. Lasse Sonne Nielson of Oelstykke, Denmark fired a one-under round of 71 to<br />

post an early tournament total of 145, but it wouldn’t be enough to take <strong>the</strong> top honors. Lundy would finish<br />

Sunday with ano<strong>the</strong>r round of 72, to earn <strong>the</strong> one stroke victory. Nielson placed second, while Martin<br />

Walrath of Alberta, Canada carded rounds of 75 and 74 to round out <strong>the</strong> top three.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> Boys 12 & Under Division JJ Qualkenbush of Lahaina, HI kept his hot streak going, taking top honors<br />

for <strong>the</strong> fourth time in <strong>the</strong> last six <strong>week</strong>s. Qualkenbush carded an opening round 81 to lead Sam Scott of<br />

Hinsdale, IL by three strokes. On Sunday, Qualkenbush posted ano<strong>the</strong>r 81 for a tournament total 162. Scott<br />

kept his second place honors for <strong>the</strong> tournament, and Jackson Prince of New Canaan, CT took home third<br />

place.<br />

After several second place finishes in her career, Hank Haney <strong>International</strong> <strong>Junior</strong> <strong>Golf</strong> Academy (HH IJGA)<br />

student Kelly Miller of Ceredigion, United Kingdom was able to breakthrough for her first IJGT victory in <strong>the</strong><br />

Girls 19 & Under Division. Miller carded an opening round 79 to take <strong>the</strong> clubhouse lead by one stroke over<br />

Lynda Kwon of North Wales, PA. On Sunday, Miller was able to improve upon her first round by recording a<br />

76 to post a 155 tournament total, and win by six strokes. Simone Strauss of Rancho Mirage, CA shot rounds<br />

of 81 and 80 to earn second place honors. Kwon and Christina Koerbs (HH IJGA) of Seelze, Germany<br />

finished in a tie for third place, posting tournament totals of 166.<br />

The IJGT was founded in 1995 for junior golfers ages 11-19. Its purpose is to provide aspiring collegiate<br />

players <strong>the</strong> opportunity to compete in a series of events against <strong>the</strong> highest quality U.S. and international<br />

competition.<br />

<strong>This</strong> year’s schedule features 61 events at some of <strong>the</strong> finest courses in <strong>the</strong> U. S. as well as tournaments in<br />

Canada and Scotland.<br />

Nearly 2000 junior golfers compete on <strong>the</strong> IJGT representing 45 states and over 30 countries. These young<br />

men and women will have <strong>the</strong> opportunity to participate in <strong>the</strong> national junior ranking system sponsored by<br />

<strong>Golf</strong><strong>week</strong> and <strong>Junior</strong> <strong>Golf</strong> Scoreboard.<br />
