AFDS is the single designated source of Air Force Enterprise authoritative identity data attributes. The purpose of AFDS is
to fully automate synchronization agreements between authoritative data sources and to provide AF organizations and
applications access to this identity data for the purpose of access authentication and authorization or for identity
management purposes. AFDS manages the connection to AF enterprise data systems, the synchronization of events, and
data changes among related systems. These activities collectively support enterprise identity management for the AF.
AFDS provides identity data attributes to over 100 different organizations and applications. AFDS is the authoritative
source for the Email for Career (E4C) persistent email address. AFDS capabilities are deployed on both the classified
(Secure Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNET)) and unclassified networks (Non-Secure Internet Protocol Router
Network (NIPRNET)) networks.
