5.5.7. Female literacy
Awareness of the community plays an important role in reducing the impact of disasters by taking
preventive measures and mitigating the consequences after the event has happened. Cost of
prevention is far lesser than the value of the loss in its absence and there is universal mandate to
upgrade the capability of communities to take up these measures. On the other hand, the indirect
damage especially mortality and morbidity due to pathogenic environment developed aftermath of an
extreme event can be greatly reduced by adopting simple preventive health measures.
It is universally acclaimed fact that awareness quotient of any community cannot better be
