Ride—Along Program<br />
Participants are authorized to ride in patrol<br />
vehicles in a passenger/observer capacity only.<br />
Participants are not permitted to take any law<br />
enforcement action, assist in conducting<br />
investigations, or perform any law enforcement<br />
task or function. All persons must wear civilian<br />
clothes when participating in the ride along<br />
program. Participants must be at least 18 years old.<br />
Student Internship Program<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>UNCG</strong> <strong>Police</strong> <strong>Department</strong> offers an internship<br />
program to students interested in a career in Law<br />
Enforcement. It is offered during the Spring<br />
Semester only.<br />
Student Safety Escort Service<br />
<strong>The</strong> purpose of the Student Safety Patrol, which<br />
operates out of the <strong>UNCG</strong> <strong>Police</strong><br />
<strong>Department</strong>, is to provide walking<br />
escorts for faculty, staff, students, and<br />
visitors who feel unsafe on campus<br />
after dark. <strong>The</strong> rangers are also<br />
trained how to respond to fire and<br />
medical calls, have the opportunity to work DWI<br />
checkpoints, go to the shooting range with the<br />
police officers, and secure and unsecure buildings<br />
on campus.<br />
<strong>Programs</strong> Provided<br />
<strong>The</strong> University of North Carolina at<br />
Greensboro <strong>Police</strong> <strong>Department</strong> offers the<br />
following programs to all students, faculty<br />
and staff members in the <strong>UNCG</strong> Community.<br />
All of these programs are free with the<br />
exception of fingerprinting.<br />

Adopt‐A‐Cop Program<br />
Each Residence Hall is assigned a <strong>UNCG</strong><br />
<strong>Police</strong> Officer who will hold sessions for<br />
police safety programs.<br />
Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Class<br />
<strong>The</strong> Rape Aggression Defense system is a program<br />
of realistic self‐defense tactics and techniques. <strong>The</strong><br />
RAD system is a comprehensive course for women<br />
teaching awareness, prevention, risk reduction,<br />
and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics<br />
of hands‐on defense training.<br />
Textbook Marking<br />
Textbook Marking will help the<br />
University <strong>Police</strong> <strong>Department</strong><br />
positively identify a lost or stolen<br />
textbook, thus dramatically increasing the odds<br />
of returning the textbook to its rightful owner.<br />
It may also provide information that will lead<br />
to the arrest and conviction of the person or<br />
persons responsible for stealing the textbooks.<br />
Pedestrian Safety<br />
Occasionally the police will conduct education<br />
and enforcement campaigns on Traffic Safety.<br />
What to do in an active shooter situation<br />
Have an officer come and speak to your group<br />
about what to do in an active shooter situation.<br />
Victim Assistance<br />
<strong>The</strong> victim assistance program is dedicated to<br />
assist any <strong>UNCG</strong> Student, Staff or Faculty that<br />
is a victim of a crime or traumatic incident.<br />
<strong>Police</strong> K‐9<br />
<strong>The</strong> UNC Greensboro <strong>Police</strong> <strong>Department</strong> K‐9<br />
Unit was established in 2007, and now has<br />
three K‐9s. <strong>The</strong> K‐9 Unit also provides K‐9<br />
demonstrations and education to community<br />
groups, depending on availability of the Team.<br />
