General Dentistry Applications
Laser Troughing Power (W): 1.2 Mode: Continuous Tip: Initiated
Laser troughing all but eliminates one of the most frustrating, unpredictable and
time-consuming procedures in the dental office – packing retraction cord. By
using a Discus Dental diode laser, you are able to obtain bloodless impressions
with clearly exposed margins within seconds. There is no concern that the
instrument will inadvertently come in contact with adjacent metal restorations
and shock the patient, as occurs with the use of electrocautery. Lasing improves
visualization of prepared crown margins and aids in hemostasis so crowns and
bridges are sure to fit properly every time. Another advantage is that tissues
look great at the cementation appointment without recession.
Gingivectomy Power (W): 1.2 Mode: Continuous Tip: Initiated
Redundant or hyperplastic tissue can be removed within a bloodless field, with
minimal — or no — post-operative pain. The outcome increases the length of
the clinical crown for improved restoration retention and esthetic harmony.
Compared to traditional surgical techniques, this procedure can be done
without a scalpel or sutures, establishing ideal tissue architecture without post
operative shrinkage. Final impressions for restorations can be completed in the
same appointment, leading to predictable results time after time.
Perio (LAPT)
Laser assisted periodontal therapy (LAPT) improves phase I periodontal therapy
and is used as an adjunct to traditional scaling and root planing, in order to
reduce pocket depths. A diode laser allows for a non-surgical approach, gaining
easier access to deeper calculus deposits after ablation of diseased epithelium
and hemorrhage control. Laser energy selectively targets only darker, necrotic
tissue and leaves healthy tissue alone, allowing for better healing and results.

Implant Recovery Power (W): 1.6 Mode: Continuous Tip: Initiated
A diode laser allows for quick, easy, and safe removal of excessive gingival
tissue around the implant that might otherwise interfere with proper
seating at the implant/retainer interface. Retainers that are not fully
seated can eventually become loosened by occlusal forces — resulting in
unstable restorations. Because laser energy is simply light energy, there
is no fear of sparking or heat transferring to the implant causing it to fail.
Laser energy will only affect soft-tissue when used properly.
Frenectomy Power (W): 1.2 Mode: Continuous Tip: Initiated
A diode laser allows for bloodless and suture-free release of the maxillary
and/or mandibular frenums. This procedure prevents the apical migration
of gingival marginal tissue, improves access for oral hygiene, and can help
close orthodontic diastemas and impaired speech.
Class V Power (W): 1.2 Mode: Continuous Tip: Initiated
A diode laser provides the practitioner with clear and uncontaminated access to restore class V defects, even where
lesions may occur sub-gingivally. Use of the laser allows access to lesions without having to deal with undesirable gingival
sulcus contaminants and interstitial fluids. The technique employs a non-surgical approach for ablation of diseased
epithelium at the gingival margins and provides excellent hemorrhage control.
Operculectomy Power (W): 1.4 Mode: Continuous Tip: Initiated
A diode laser allows for easy removal of redundant soft tissue distal
to posterior molars. The chronic recurrence of pericornitis, significant
periodontal probing depths or pseudo-pockets can be easily managed
with this procedure.

Orthodontic Applications
Cuspid Exposure Power (W): 1.0 Mode: Continuous Tip: Initiated
Waiting on the completion of passive eruption can delay treatment
for months to a year. Parents often don’t understand the cause
of the delay, or reject the additional expense of a trip to the oral
surgeon. A diode laser can easily remove tissue and provide access
for bracket attachment without the need for local anesthesia. The
procedure usually takes less than 4 minutes and is painless, with the
result being a dry field that is ready for immediate bracket/button

energy to hemoglobin and melanin.
