‘Late’ —AD 800–1066. <strong>The</strong> division between ‘Middle’ and ‘Late’ is compli<strong>ca</strong>ted by the arrival <strong>of</strong><br />

Viking raiders and settlers (see Chapter 11). Alternative names given to the ‘Early’ period reflect<br />
