<strong>of</strong> Dundee, Viscount <strong>of</strong> Dudhope, Lord Scrimgeour and louerkeithiiig, 1661: <strong>the</strong> limitations are not<br />

known, <strong>the</strong> patent ucjt be<strong>in</strong>g ou record. [.See ante, p. 1S5.] He died. 23 June 1663. without issue by his<br />

wife. Lady Anne Kanisay, second daughter <strong>of</strong> William, first Earl <strong>of</strong> Dalhousie, to whom he was married <strong>in</strong><br />

1644, and who took to her second husband. Sir Henry Bruce <strong>of</strong> Clackmannan.<br />

Ou <strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Earl <strong>of</strong> Dundee, <strong>the</strong> Duke <strong>of</strong> Lauderdale obta<strong>in</strong>ed fnj<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> crown a gift <strong>of</strong><br />

ultimus htures and <strong>of</strong> recognition <strong>of</strong> his estate <strong>in</strong> favour <strong>of</strong> his bro<strong>the</strong>r, Charles -Maitland <strong>of</strong> Hatton.<br />

Agreeably to <strong>the</strong> settlements <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> estates, 1541 and 15S7, <strong>the</strong>y should have devolved on <strong>the</strong> family <strong>of</strong><br />

Kirkton, descended from James .Scrymgeour <strong>of</strong> Kirktoun [see ante, p. 169], wlio married Elizabeth,<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> James Scrymgeour <strong>of</strong> Dudhope. [viii.]''<br />

He had also a son David, who died before 11 July 1646, when his two daughters, Clara and Margaret,<br />

were served ' heirs portiouers <strong>of</strong> David Scrymgeour, son lawful <strong>of</strong> John. Viscount <strong>of</strong> Dudhripe, <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

fa<strong>the</strong>r" {Inq. Gen. 3151). Of <strong>the</strong>se Clara died before 8 Oct. 1637, when her sister Margaret w.-is<br />

served her heir {ib. 4279J. Later on, 4 Feb. 1686, <strong>the</strong> Ladies Jean and Marg.iret Scrymgeour were<br />

served heirs to Sir John hie. for James ?) Scrymgeour <strong>of</strong> Dudhope, <strong>the</strong>ir graudfa<strong>the</strong>r (li. 6708), whose<br />

male l<strong>in</strong>e was thus ext<strong>in</strong>ct.<br />
