confirmed at Breclun 30 April 1632, appo<strong>in</strong>t-? him, " <strong>in</strong> ackno\vledy;ment <strong>of</strong> his<br />

k<strong>in</strong>dness and tender love to her," solo executor, and but for a legacy <strong>of</strong> 100 merks<br />

to <strong>the</strong> poor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> kirk <strong>of</strong> Dundee, sole legatee also (Br.T. II)." She left no issue,<br />

her husband's heir be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> first <strong>in</strong>stance his nephew Alexander, and later<br />

Alexander's daughters, Helen and Elizabeth (ante, pp. 11-1-15).<br />

5. Peter Wedderbum [ 1 570 ?— 1 623],- fifth son <strong>of</strong> Alexander Wcdderburn and Janet<br />

Myln, waa born ab.uit 1.J70, be<strong>in</strong>g first named <strong>in</strong> a settlement <strong>of</strong> an annual rent<br />

upon him 21 March 1575 (D.W. l\j). It is he, perhaps, though it may be his<br />

uncle (ante, p. 9C), who witnesses his fa<strong>the</strong>r's gift <strong>of</strong> his protocol <strong>book</strong>s and a<br />

silver cup to David Wedderhurn (ante, p. 106) <strong>in</strong> itay 1583 and 1585 (D.W. 11 c cl).<br />

He is next named <strong>in</strong> connection with his share <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> estate <strong>of</strong> his parents 15S5-86<br />

(i//. 12 a /y and note; Ed.T. 5, 6). There are various slight references to him<br />

1586— 1600,e.y., 25 March 1 when he gets sas<strong>in</strong>e <strong>of</strong> a South Argvlegait tenement<br />

(D.P.B. 249)' ; 25 March 1591, when "son <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late clerk" he grants a bond ( D.B.R.<br />

288); 17 March 1591, when he acquires an annual rent from his bro<strong>the</strong>r David<br />

(D.P.B. 2S()) ;<br />

20 Dec. 1594, when he writes a memorandum <strong>of</strong> his bro<strong>the</strong>r Robert's<br />

efFeets (D.W. 12 e); 28 April 1596, when "younger, son <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late clerk," he<br />

grants a discharge (ib. 306) ; 17 May 1596, when, bro<strong>the</strong>r german <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>n clerk,<br />

he is a witness (D.B.K. 309), and, 29 May <strong>in</strong> that year, when he, bro<strong>the</strong>r to James <strong>the</strong><br />

merchant, witness and signs a charter (S.W. 112, and ace facsimHe <strong>of</strong> his signature<br />

vol. ii., opp. p. 13) *<br />

In 159S, May 26, he is defender <strong>in</strong> an action, <strong>in</strong> which he is<br />

<strong>ca</strong>lled " Patrick, son <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late clerk " (U.A.D. 35) ; and, 11 Jnne <strong>in</strong> that year, he is<br />

named with his bro<strong>the</strong>r David (D.B.R. 322 c). In two o<strong>the</strong>r actions by him <strong>in</strong><br />

r 1600-1 (11 A. D. 39, 41) he is termed burgess <strong>of</strong> Dundee, although he was not<br />

admitted till 17 Sept. 1605 (D.L.B. 35). '"<strong>in</strong> 1604, Feb. 2, he is named with his<br />

bro<strong>the</strong>rs and sisters iu connection with <strong>the</strong> estate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir lata bro<strong>the</strong>r William<br />

(S.W. 157), but is not so named <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> contract <strong>of</strong> 1613 (R.A.D. 61). He is<br />

aga<strong>in</strong>, before his admission as such, <strong>ca</strong>lled "burgess <strong>of</strong> Dundee" 3 July 1605,<br />

when he is a witness (D.P.B. 358).<br />

He was a merchant <strong>in</strong> Dundee, and is designed " mer<strong>ca</strong>tor" <strong>in</strong> his admission,<br />

17 Sept. 1605, as burgess (D.L.B. 35 1,<br />

as well as on o<strong>the</strong>r oc<strong>ca</strong>sions, e.ff., 17 July<br />

1609, when he gets a decree (D.B.R. 363> ; 13 March 1613, when he grants a discharge<br />

{ih. 384) ; and, 24 Jan. 1614, a bond {ib. 387). Sometimes froni 1615 on he<br />

.is <strong>ca</strong>lled "elder," e.ff., 11 Feb. 1615 (ib. 398) : 4 Aug., 24 Dec. 1G17 (D.P.B. 394,<br />

411), and 23 June 1620 {ib. 423 a). O<strong>the</strong>r references to him will be found<br />
