4. William <strong>Wedderburn</strong>. There are only two references to him <strong>in</strong> tlic Dundee<br />

records, viz. (u) 5 Feb. 1640, when William <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, mar<strong>in</strong>er son <strong>of</strong> Alexander<br />

<strong>Wedderburn</strong>. elder, merchant, is admitted burgess <strong>of</strong> Dundee (I ». LB 50). The<br />

entry adds that his "accidents" were paid, and <strong>the</strong>re is ano<strong>the</strong>r and later note,<br />

(b) 12 Nov. 1641, <strong>in</strong> which he is named as hav<strong>in</strong>g paid his accidents (D (J U 0) ' '<br />

Andrew <strong>Wedderburn</strong> [1609-83] ^ The earliest reference to him is to a sas<strong>in</strong>o<br />

<strong>of</strong> a North Marketguit land made <strong>in</strong> his favour 14 ilarch 1609 Iransnmcd 25 L>ec. 1610<br />

(D.B.R. 442 /'), made probably soon after his birth, lie was admitted a burgess <strong>of</strong> Dundee<br />

22 April 1634 (D.L.B. 51), though he is named as liv<strong>in</strong>g at S. Andrew's <strong>in</strong> J<strong>in</strong>ie <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

followhig year (D.P.B. 435 b).* He is also named as a witness 3 June l(i:'.5 (//,.435 a) and<br />

20 Jan. ] 637 (R. 1 ). 1 22). He was. as we have seen, entered heir to his bro<strong>the</strong>rs I'ntriek and<br />

John, 5 Nov. 1640 (D.P.B. 4-50-51), <strong>in</strong> certa<strong>in</strong> North Marketgait lands <strong>in</strong> regard to which<br />

he is <strong>of</strong>ten named. He was a long merchant <strong>in</strong> Dundee, and <strong>the</strong>re is a note anion"<br />

<strong>the</strong> papers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sk<strong>in</strong>ners or Glover's Craft, " 1644-45, To Aiidro <strong>Wedderburn</strong> fur rihb<strong>in</strong>s<br />

to our sojers 40s." (D.T.G. 2;i). He took his part <strong>in</strong> burgh all'aii-s, and was for some<br />

time collector <strong>of</strong> duties or " stentar." Thus, 12 March 164'.», he is on an iiKiuest<br />

(D.B.R. 451); 11 Dee. 1650, he is chosen "stentar" (D.C.B. 94); 10 May 1C64, ho is<br />

cont<strong>in</strong>ued <strong>in</strong> tlie excise, and 26 Dec. renders his accounts, which are pa.sscd {i'>. 107,<br />

109); 1669-70, <strong>of</strong>ten named as stentar" {ib. 115); 25 July 1676, he acts lus bailie<br />

(F.S. 64), and, 13 .liiiic 1683, shortly before liis death, is on an <strong>in</strong>quest (1). Dec. 12).<br />

His properties <strong>in</strong> Dundee are <strong>of</strong>ten mentioned. Thus, 13 July 1C>50. he is n.<strong>in</strong>ied lui<br />

occupy<strong>in</strong>g a North Marketgait tenement (D. P. li 457); 3 .lune 1651, lands <strong>of</strong> his fa<strong>the</strong>r,<br />

now his. are mentioned (ih. 475) ; 1653, <strong>the</strong>re is a disposition by hiui to Unhert l»ou'_'l;i.s <strong>of</strong><br />

a Dundee property (D.Dec. 56;; 25 Ma}-, 30 Nov. Ifi59, a South lii.:h Street and a South<br />

Murraygait tenement, once his, are named (ib. 483 a ft) ; 18 Sept. liiiJ6. his l.uids <strong>in</strong> .North<br />

Marketgait tb. 501); 22 Jan. 1670, 17 Dec. 1671. 2 Nov. 1676, <strong>in</strong> North Argvl.gait (ib.<br />

513, 518, .')27 and, 3 May 1682, <strong>the</strong> South High Street I ; land, once his (ib. 533;.' After his<br />

death <strong>the</strong>se lands cont<strong>in</strong>ue to be named for some 3ear3 as hav<strong>in</strong>g once been his '"•'A,<br />
