Dr. Joanne Avery Deputy Superintendent
Anderson Four August 2, 2010
Subject: AYP Release
Anderson School District Four Schools Make Progress in Meeting AYP;
District no longer has a school in “Improvement”
Pendleton, SC:
Today, Superintendent Lee D’Andrea announced the release of 2010 Adequate Yearly
Progress (AYP) reports for Anderson School District Four, maintaining 90.5% AYP
compliance with five of the six schools making AYP. “We are very proud of all of our
schools and celebrate the gains each of them have demonstrated,” said Dr. Lee
D’Andrea, Superintendent.
“Pendleton Elementary truly turned it around,” said D’Andrea. “The hard work of
teachers, staff, students and parents are evident in the results.” Chief Academic Officer
Charlotte McDavid stated that Pendleton Elementary is no longer in Title I School
Improvement, “which means that the district will not have to transfer students under the
school choice option nor provide supplemental educational services from outside
agencies” she said.
While the district met 19 of its 21 objectives just missing making AYP, all Anderson
School District Four elementary schools and Pendleton High School met AYP. “the
board and me appreciate and value the diligence and the work of everyone in the
district,” said D’Andrea.
Townville Elementary met AYP for the 8 th consecutive year since the inception of NCLB
and Mount Lebanon Elementary made AYP for the third year since its opening 2007.
LaFrance Elementary made AYP for the second year in a row as well as Pendleton
Elementary met AYP moving them out of School Improvement.
Riverside Middle School just missed making AYP (19 out 21). Areas targeted from
improvement include English language arts and math for students with disabilities.
Our middle school met 19 out of 21 goals and yet, in this all or nothing accountability,
they did not make AYP,” said D’Andrea.
The 2010 AYP Report for the district is based on the aggregated 2010 PASS (Palmetto
Assessment of State Standards) results (grades 3-8) and the SC-Alt results (grades 2-

7) for districts with elementary/middle grades; and the May HSAP results and the
HSAP-Alt results (grade 10) for Pendleton High School.
“The MAP (Measured Academic Progress) test data was key to our success in
identifying areas of deficiency in the 9th and 10th grades,” said Heather Gordon,
principal. “Implementation of math and reading courses, A+ credit recovery program,
Read 180 for building their reading comprehension skills as well as technology
resources such as USA Testprep for HSAP and EOC tests preparation proved
successful.”
“Instructionally, all the pieces came together,” said Dr. Charlotte McDavid, Chief
Academic Officer. “The data clearly shows that we have the right personnel, programs,
and strategies in place to support student growth.”
Last year, Anderson School District Four had four of its six schools to meet AYP.
