HURST PLASTICS (THE PVC-U PANEL
DOOR MANUFACTURER) has taken on
Edgetech’s foam-based spacer bar Super
Spacer. The company had been
experiencing an increase in demand for
variations in composite door glass designs
and wantedtoensure they were abletooffer
choice and not to compromise the overall
performance of the doorsets.
Darren Glew, ops directorexplains: “With
the introduction of the BRFC’s ‘Door Energy
Rating Scheme’, the focus has been on
increasing the performance of all our
manufactured door styles and designs to
enable our customers tomeet the scheme
requirements, whilst stilloffer their customer’s
achoice.
“To help support the increased demand,
we knew there was a need to improve
productivity in areas of our glass unit
manufacturing. We selected Edgetech
because of their product and their knowledge
on manufacturing sealed glass units. They
have helped us achieve the performance and

throughout. Says Byers: “We were
introducing new and existing customer to
the non-stick world of ClearShield and
encouraging them to fight the causes of
problem glass and to join our ‘GoodGlass
Campaign’.
Ritec is a pioneer in glass surface
protection. “We’ve had many glass
processors, fabricatorsand installers return
to Ritec aftertrying other glass treatments,”
continues Byers. “And at the show we had
interest from architects and interior
designers, aswell as those involved in the
solar panel and automotive industries.”
There are different Clearshield
applications and two in particular can be
applied to in-situ glazing. ClearShield Eco
GlassT, for exterior glazing, reduces
routine cleaning by 50% on average for
cleaner, greener energy-saving glass,
while ClearShield Hygiene GlassT, for
interior glazing, is easy to clean and keep
clean and resists the adhesion and growth
of bacteria and viruses through its ‘nonstick’
properties. i

CE Marking is alegal
requirement that comes into force
at the beginning ofJuly 2013. As
CE Marking of doors and windows
includes safety testing, if something
goes wrong those liable could be
faced with fines and/or
imprisonment.
The law affects any company that
brings afinished product to
market. “Synseal will beaffected by
this new law because we bring to
market fully manufactured

windows and bifolding
doors,”
explains David Leng,
Synseal’s chief
executive. “However,
the majority of our
customers are also
affected –including
installers who buy
components such as
glass separately. While
Synseal cannot
undertake the CE

offer practical support and these
workshops are one such way we
can help.”
