Media Information<br />
The Union College Sports Information<br />
Office provides complete information and<br />
media services regarding the institution’s<br />
23 intercollegiate sports. The department is<br />
responsible for all public and media relations<br />
pertaining to athletics, athletic department<br />
publications, the athletic department’s Internet<br />
web site, statistical and historical record<br />
keeping for all sports and other promotional<br />
activities surrounding the athletic department.<br />
The Sports Information Office is located in<br />
Room 107B in the Lakeside Athletic Building.<br />

Information Office follows:<br />
Media Services and Policies<br />
INTERVIEWS - All interviews with Union<br />
College coaches, student-athletes and staff<br />
members must be arranged through the Sports<br />
Information Office. After games, matches<br />
and other athletic events, locker rooms are<br />
generally off limits to members of the media.<br />
Player and coach interviews, however, may be<br />
conducted outside locker room entrances or on<br />
the playing surface after a minimal, 10-minute<br />
cooling off period for participants.<br />
PRACTICES - Practices are generally open<br />
to members of the media. Prior knowledge of<br />
attendance, however, is a much appreciated<br />
gesture.<br />
GAME DAY COVERAGE AND PRESS<br />
PASSES - Any media member covering a<br />
game, match or other contest hosted by Union<br />
College is asked to reserve a press credential<br />
at least 24 hours prior to the event. While last<br />
minute media are welcome, prior knowledge<br />
of your arrival is much appreciated. For<br />
most sports, the Sports Information Office<br />
will provide statistical information and/or<br />

PRESS CONFERENCES - In the event of<br />
a press conference, the primary media covering<br />
Union College Athletics will be notified as<br />
far in advance as possible. To be added to<br />
the primary media list, contact the Sports<br />
Information Office.<br />
GAME PROGRAMS, GAME NOTES<br />
AND MEDIA INFORMATION - Pregame<br />
information may be obtained from the Sports<br />
Information Office when available. If notes,<br />
programs, etc., are not available, the Sports<br />
Information Office will assist members of the<br />
working media in any way possible to ensure<br />
accurate reporting.<br />
TECHNOLOGY - At most Union College<br />
Athletic events, a general phone and fax<br />
line and photocopier will be made available<br />
to members of the working media. When<br />
those amenities are unavailable, the Sports<br />
Information Director office or another office<br />
will be made available before, during and after<br />
events.<br />
RADIO - Any visiting radio broadcasts<br />
must reserve their seating and phone lines at<br />
least two weeks in advance of the covered<br />
event. While late-comers are welcome, phone<br />
lines and seating can not be guaranteed. For<br />
football and basketball, one analog phone line<br />
will be reserved for visiting radio, whether<br />
previous arrangements have been made or not.<br />
PHOTOGRAPHERS - Photographers are<br />
asked to stay between the 30-yard line and<br />
the end zone for football and in the respective<br />
end zones for basketball. For all other sports,<br />
standard shooting spots may be utilized.<br />
Similar policies apply for credentials and<br />
seating reservations.<br />

Jay Stancil<br />
Jay Stancil has<br />
served as Union<br />
College’s Sports<br />
Information Director<br />
since August of 1999.<br />
During his career,<br />
Stancil has received<br />
numerous awards,<br />
earning 38 NAIA-SIDA Publication Awards<br />
including three first-place honors and one<br />
Best Cover. In addition, he placed first in the<br />
NSCAA Writing Contest in the Deadline/<br />
Game Story Division in 2005 and third place<br />
in the CoSIDA’s Fred S. Stabley Sr. District<br />
IV Writing Contest twice.<br />
Over the years, Stancil has served as the<br />
media coordinator for numerous postseason<br />
tournaments, including most recently the<br />
2008 Appalachian Athletic Conference<br />
baseball tournament. He also served as a<br />
member of the gameday staff for the NAIA<br />
Football National Championship Game in<br />
2006 and 2007.<br />
As Union’s SID, Stancil has had 11<br />
student-athletes earn CoSIDA Academic<br />
All-America District IV honors with four<br />
receiving CoSIDA Academic All-America<br />
Team honors.<br />
Stancil is a member of the NAIA-SIDA<br />
- the NAIA’s Sports Information Directors<br />
Association and College Sports Information<br />
Directors of America (CoSIDA).<br />
Also, Stancil served as the NAIA Region<br />
XII Information Director from 2005-08 and<br />
is an At-Large Representative on the NAIA-<br />
SIDA Board of Directors.<br />
Stancil is married, and he and his wife,<br />
Genople, have two children - a son, Jayson,<br />
and a daughter, Haylee.<br />

Gene Renfro<br />
Gene Renfro is<br />
beginning his second<br />
year as the Assistant<br />
Sports Information<br />
Director.<br />
Renfro, a native of<br />
Johnson City, Tenn.,<br />
comes to Union after<br />
serving six years in the Milligan (Tenn.)<br />
College sports information office.<br />
Among his responsibilities, Renfro will<br />
assist in media relations for all 23 of Union’s<br />
athletic programs as well as writing releases,<br />
compiling statistics, website maintenance<br />
and producing and publishing media guides.<br />
Renfro earned his bachelor’s from<br />
Milligan in 2005 and his master’s in sports<br />
management from East Tennessee State<br />
Univeristy.<br />
Renfro is a member of both the NAIA-<br />
SIDA and CoSIDA.<br />
