DARIN S. WILSON<br />
In February of<br />
2003, Darin S. Wilson<br />
was named the<br />
Director of Athletics<br />
at Union College.<br />
Since becoming<br />
the school’s Director<br />
of Athletics, Wilson<br />
has begun improving the college’s athletic<br />
facilities such as a new press boxes at<br />
the football and softball facilities, the<br />
installation of synthetic sports turf at Burch/<br />
Nau Field, remodeling of athletic training<br />
facilities in Robsion Arena as well as several<br />
other projects.<br />
Union has enjoyed unprecedented<br />
success on and off the field of play during<br />
Wilson’s tenure. Since taking the helm,<br />
the Union athletic department has won 17<br />
Applachian Athletic Conference regularseason<br />
and tournament championships, three<br />
Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference<br />
championships and six NAIA Region XII<br />
championships. Additionally, 23 Bulldog<br />
and Lady Bulldogs teams have participated<br />
in national championship tournaments and<br />
events.<br />
Wilson was honored by the Appalachian<br />
Athletic Conference in 2008 as the league’s<br />
Athletic Director of the Year.<br />
In the classroom, Union has had 32<br />
NAIA Scholar-Athletes and four CoSIDA<br />
Academic All-America Team members since<br />
2003.<br />
In addition, Wilson has revitalized and<br />
revived once-dormant athletic programs.<br />
Cross country and men’s tennis were<br />
reinstated as sponsored sports in 2004-05,<br />
while women’s tennis, men’s and women’s<br />
track and field and men’s and women’s<br />
swimming returned for the 2005-06<br />
academic year. In 2008-09, bowling will<br />
make a resurgence after a 30-year absence,<br />
giving Union 23 intercollegiate programs.<br />
Prior to accepting the post, Wilson served<br />
as the head baseball coach, sitting at the<br />
helm of the Bulldogs for five seasons (1999-<br />
2003). During that span, Wilson posted<br />
a 161-106-1 record and was named the<br />
Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year in<br />
2001.<br />
The Versailles, Ky., native originally<br />
attended the University of Kentucky to play<br />
baseball, but transferred to Union prior to<br />
the 1994 season. As a senior, Wilson was<br />
named the school’s Male Athlete of the Year.<br />
After graduating cum laude from Union<br />
in 1996, Wilson joined the Bulldog baseball<br />
staff as an assistant coach.<br />
Wilson and his wife, Patti, reside in<br />
Barbourville. The couple also has one son,<br />
Drew, and one daughter, Mara.<br />
