The objectives <strong>of</strong> the<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

AUTh, are to showcase<br />

its level <strong>of</strong> study and<br />

research and closely<br />

collaborate with<br />

powerful technical<br />

universities from the<br />

European Union <strong>in</strong><br />

order to effectively face<br />

<strong>in</strong>itiatives that could<br />

potentially downgrade<br />

the level <strong>of</strong> eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g<br />

studies.<br />

Candidates for membership must be proposed<br />

and supported by exist<strong>in</strong>g T.I.M.E. members.<br />

Though European by orig<strong>in</strong> and membership, the<br />

network has already accepted its first two non-European<br />

members from Brazil and Japan. Others will<br />

follow.<br />

There are over 2,500 T.I.M.E. graduates currently<br />

work<strong>in</strong>g all around the world. The output <strong>of</strong> T.I.M.E.<br />

Double Degree graduates <strong>in</strong>creases annually as the<br />

network expands.<br />

T.I.M.E. is one <strong>of</strong> the oldest-established and best-known networks <strong>in</strong> its field.<br />

It has rema<strong>in</strong>ed faithful to its orig<strong>in</strong>al goals: to promote quality, encourage recognition,<br />

and produce graduates who are able to work transnationally.<br />

T.I.M.E. today<br />

S<strong>in</strong>ce its foundation, T.I.M.E. has become one <strong>of</strong> the best-known and most respected<br />

networks for eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>education</strong>. Membership has s<strong>in</strong>ce grown to 51<br />

(<strong>in</strong> 2007).<br />

On the occasion <strong>of</strong> the 2004 General Assembly at U.L.B. <strong>in</strong> Brussels, T.I.M.E.<br />

celebrated its 1500th Double Degree graduate and welcomed Aristotle University<br />

<strong>of</strong> Thessaloniki.<br />

As the network expands and more bilateral agreements are signed, the annual<br />

output <strong>of</strong> T.I.M.E. graduates is <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g significantly.<br />

Follow<strong>in</strong>g a review <strong>of</strong> strategy and policies, proposals were made to the 2006<br />

General Assembly <strong>in</strong> Lund, Sweden, and a number <strong>of</strong> projects are under way:<br />

• TESS (Summer Programme <strong>in</strong> Susta<strong>in</strong>ability: 5 ECTS credits), launched <strong>in</strong><br />

2007 and currently funded under ERASMUS (Intensive Programme).<br />

• TEMP (Management Programme, to be launched <strong>in</strong> 2008: 30 ECTS credits).<br />

• Strategy and Quality Initiative (to be implemented <strong>in</strong> 2008-9).<br />

• Master’s/PhD Project (under development).<br />

S<strong>in</strong>ce 2004, there has been a successful Jo<strong>in</strong>t Programme (IMIM: International<br />

Master’s <strong>in</strong> Industrial Management) with a 2-year duration, operated by UP Madrid,<br />

Politecnico di Milano, and KTH Stockholm, and currently funded under ER-<br />

ASMUS MUNDUS.<br />

The T.I.M.E. Programme aims:<br />

• Internationalisation <strong>of</strong> high-level <strong>education</strong> for eng<strong>in</strong>eers with the application<br />

<strong>of</strong> a common <strong>education</strong>al programme, directed towards students <strong>of</strong> the best<br />

technical universities from <strong>in</strong>dustrial countries.<br />

• Possibility <strong>of</strong> acquisition <strong>of</strong> two degrees from two different higher <strong>education</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>stitutions. The two degrees are granted after attendance <strong>of</strong> courses at both<br />

<strong>in</strong>stitutions with a total duration <strong>of</strong> six years, two <strong>of</strong> which at a Technical University<br />

abroad. The two degrees are issued by the contract<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>of</strong><br />

orig<strong>in</strong> and reception.<br />

• Ensur<strong>in</strong>g the degree issued by the <strong>in</strong>stitution <strong>of</strong> orig<strong>in</strong> is recognized as one<br />

<strong>of</strong> the best at European and world level. Institutions that are members <strong>of</strong> the<br />

T.I.M.E. network adhere to a bilateral agreement which determ<strong>in</strong>es a number<br />

<strong>of</strong> common objectives and mutual obligations. Namely, they undertake to develop,<br />

via bilateral agreements, long-term exchanges <strong>of</strong> the highest-achiev<strong>in</strong>g<br />

students, aim<strong>in</strong>g at educat<strong>in</strong>g “European cross-cultural” eng<strong>in</strong>eers with two<br />

equivalent degrees. The fundamental orig<strong>in</strong>ality <strong>of</strong> the programme is the possibility<br />

<strong>of</strong> acquisition, after studies with a total duration <strong>of</strong> six years, two eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g<br />

degrees:<br />
