SEFI: European Society<br />

for Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Education<br />

SEFI numbers 175 <strong>in</strong>stitutions as members <strong>in</strong> 42 countries (July 2008). The<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> the Aristotle University <strong>of</strong> Thessaloniki has been<br />

a member <strong>of</strong> SEFI s<strong>in</strong>ce 2005 and is represented <strong>in</strong> the SEFI Adm<strong>in</strong>istrative<br />

Council elected for the period from October 2006 to October 2009.<br />

SEFI was founded <strong>in</strong> 1973 as a non-pr<strong>of</strong>it organisation under Belgian Law. It is<br />

the largest network <strong>of</strong> higher <strong>education</strong> eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>stitutions and <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>dividuals<br />

<strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>education</strong> <strong>in</strong> Europe. SEFI’s mission is to contribute to<br />

the development and the improvement <strong>of</strong> eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>education</strong> <strong>in</strong> Europe. SEFI<br />

is the first example <strong>of</strong> an association directly l<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>of</strong> higher eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>education</strong>. Hence it is <strong>in</strong>dependent <strong>of</strong> national and/or community filters<br />

<strong>in</strong> establish<strong>in</strong>g its policy, as an <strong><strong>in</strong>ternational</strong> forum for discuss<strong>in</strong>g problems and<br />

identify<strong>in</strong>g solutions relat<strong>in</strong>g to eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>education</strong>.<br />

Aims and Objectives<br />

The aim <strong>of</strong> the Society is to contribute to the development and improvement<br />

<strong>of</strong> eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>education</strong> <strong>in</strong> Europe, as well as to the improvement <strong>of</strong> the position<br />

<strong>of</strong> both eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>education</strong> <strong>in</strong> society <strong>in</strong> general and <strong>of</strong> eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g pr<strong>of</strong>essionals<br />

<strong>in</strong> particular.<br />
