Welcome to the Pembroke King’s weekly newsletter – The King’s Speech. Each week it will fill you in on
the previous weeks happenings around the club as well as what to expect in the coming weeks.
A tough weekend saw the Kings go down at Thebarton Oval versus Seaton. Unfortunately both the B and C
grades were also unable to come away with wins. This only gives the club the opportunity to improve so
turning to this week we take on Para Hills at home. Para Hills are sitting one position above us on the
ladder only by percentage. This is a massive game for the boys and a must win so get along on Saturday
and show your support. Round 12 is brought to you by Berry Funeral Directors.
QUIZ NIGHT
This is the last reminder to get involved in the Kings and Queens Quiz Night taking place at at DY Hall,
food but strictly NO BYO DRINKS. There will be cheap drinks served on the night. For bookings contact
the night as there are sure to be some cracker questions. This will be a fantastic night.
MONARCH’S LUNCH
A reminder that the Monarch’s Lunch is taking place on Friday the 8 th of July at Chloe’s Restaurant. The
guest speaker this year will be Crows management legend and former South Adelaide Coach John Reid.
These lunches offer a once in a lifetime opportunity to get a real one on one with the speaker and have
been a sensational day. Reidy follows former greats who have spoken at the Lunch like Chris Dittmar,
Geoff Roach, Steve Davis and “Budda” Hocking.

A-GRADE REPORT
PEMBROKE KINGS 9 3 57
Goal Scorers - T. Evans – 4, M. Falzon – 2, S. Fischer – 1, S. Lawrence, J. Pinkney
Best Players - H. Thring, A. Catford, T. Evans, H. Nicholson, J. Pinkney
Unfortunately another disappointing result on the weekend against Seaton Ramblers. We went
into game with 4 changes which unfortunately seems to be the season average. An old coach
once mentioned that excuses are like 'backsides', everyones got them! (actually he said
something else but i have cleaned it up for the purpose of the email. Having said that it would be
difficult for our supporters to comprehend why our results have been so poor particularly after a
winning start to the season. On Saturday we got beaten by 10 goals to a side we defeated in the
first round. Since our first match, the clubs depth has been tested losing Canny, Franklin, Panelli
(our entire center square from the season opener),Grigoul and Brackenridge. In the next two
weeks we lose centre half forward Matt Falzon and full back Henry Nicholson to overseas
commitments. This means only one thing. Opportunities!
On Saturday it was the youngest side that we have put on the park with 15 of the 21 'A grade'
players under the age of 22. Of these 15, at least 12 have played less than 10 games of A grade
football for the Pembroke Kings. I say this not as an excuse but to try to give our supporters some
context as to our results so far this season. Opportunities will continue to come and i have been
pleased with the improvement shown by a number of the younger players. On Saturday our
inexperience showed with the stronger bodies of Seaton winning the contested ball which
invariably created opportunities down the ground. Harry Thring has been one of the big improvers
this season and he once again led the way with a best on ground performance. Tom Evans has
continued his improvement with 4 goals and 2 quality assists from very limited opportunities.
Jimmy Pinkney and Alex Catford also had good performances.
This week we are back at home against Para Hills.
B-GRADE REPORT
SEATON 12 7 79
PEMBROKE KINGS 6 5 41
Goal Scorers – N. Teague – 2, M. Harmer- 1, A. Berry, D. Gallen, T. Seagrim
Best Players - M. Walsh, D. Gallen, B. Sanders, J. Franklin, N. Smerdon
For the second time this year we travelled to Thebarton Oval to take on Seaton Ramblers. The game
started well for the Kings and we showed some good signs early. The first half half we saw some great
efforts all over the ground and we were with Seaton on the scoreboard. Just before the main break
Tommy Seagrim kicked a long bomb to get us within a goal from the Ramblers. As the game wore on
there seemed to be a drop in concentration and there were simple skill errors which hurt us. We ended up
going down by 6 goals.
It was great to have a chat as a group after the game – something that I think has only been done once
this year – and go through the game. I think that it’s a great way to iron out the things that we need to work
on as a team and hear from the playing group. Win or lose I think that we should take 10 minutes just to
have chat amongst the group and share out thoughts on the game.
Michael ‘Hagred’ Walsh played a great game in his 100 th for the club. With Dogga out due to exams
Walshy played out 4 quarters in the ruck and didn’t stop working. Our resident Irishman Declan Gallen
was courageous all day hitting the contest with everything he had and didn’t stop until the siren went.
Blakey Sanders in his second game back for the year played some creative footy and shown us that we
have been missing him all year. He also landed one of the best tackles I’ve seen this year that resulted in
one of their players being sent off with a yellow card and we were eventually were rewarded with a goal.
Its this stuff that inspires and lifts your team mates on the field and get the results on the board. It was the
best game for the year for Jack ‘Nugget’ Franklin with his strong hands and ability to move the footy on
quickly. Smedgie Smerdon attacked the ball fiercely off the half back line with his sharp hands allowing us
to move the ball through the centre.
This week we take on Para Hills at home. Last time we saw them we got up by one point in a great
contest. These boys will be hungry to get some revenge on us so we have to make sure that we are ready
from the get go and we should have a good game on our hands. Hate Para Hills!
Marital Status: Taken
What were your goals at the start of season 2011? At the half way point of
the season where do you stand with them? Main goal was obviously to play
some finals, personally I wanted to try and show a bit more leadership within the
group and perform consistently for the team…. Finals hopes are looking glim,
Could always do more to improve the leadership aspect and performance still
working on it.
What is on Alex Catford’s Saturday morning breakfast plate/bowl before a
game?
I eat a fair bit before a game, it usually consist of weet-bix (4-6) a banana, maybe
some toast, I usually eat a sub or some bakers delight rolls on the way to the game
and ill usually chuck in a packet of chips or a chocolate bar after that.
What is your usual meal at the Kensi? Beef schnitty with diane sauce.
Which song would be playing over your highlights reel? Ill leave that up to the guru of editing Jack chooky Wightman.
What was the last movie you saw and how many spuds? Sherlock Holmes, yeah I rate it 4 spuds
What is the best TV show on at the moment? Probably how I met your mother
If you could be anyone for a day who would it be? Sir David Attenborough , so I could make a documentary on the football life of kings
legend Charlie Prider.
What are your thoughts on the AFL subs rule? Don’t like it that much they are starting to bring in to many new rules and regulations
just leave the game as it was.
Who’s your tip to win the AFL Premiership this year? Unfortunately the pie’s
Where is the best place to head out in Adelaide after the infamous ‘Hour of Power’? Lately, havvy, alma, bakery, chookies night
club.... sleep at the Wightmans and breakfast at the colonist.
Who’s going to win Wimbledon? Novak djokovic
Have you been ‘studying’ in preparation for this weekend’s quiz night? Nah not really I’ve been trying to convince the trivia genius
Nick Bently to be on my table.
Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar? Steven seagull (Jake Brennan)
Final Words Pressure point

Name: Jack Creevy
Nicknames: Creevs, Creevox, Wallace, Moonface
DOB: 21/04/1992
Occupation: Student/Cricket and Footy Coach/Pub worker
Marital Status: taken
What were your goals at the start of season 2011? At the half way point of the season
where do you stand with them? Play all A-Grade games and win a flag. At present I haven’t
missed a game, not sure about winning a flag though, maybe focus on staying out of the drop
zone for now.
What is on Jack Creevy’s Saturday morning breakfast plate/bowl before a game? Ham,
Cheese and Tomato toastie
What is your usual meal at the Kensi? If there aren’t any good specials I’ll settle for a bowl
of wedges, but the Schnitty and Pint deal at the moment is a cracker
Which song would be playing over your highlights reel? Enter the Ninja – Die Antwoord
What was the last movie you saw and how many spuds? Green Zone – 3/5. Decent plot but
went a bit over the top on the fight scenes
What is the best TV show on at the moment? Breaking Bad is a cracker but it isn’t actually on TV here, don’t mind a bit of masterchef
though
If you could be anyone for a day who would it be? Pierre-Louise Costes – soon to be the best bodyboarder ever
What are your thoughts on the AFL subs rule? Absolutely terrible – screwed up my DT all year. Seriously though, the pace of the game
isn’t going to slow down because of it, players just won’t be able to keep it us as long and injuries will start happening more and more
often. Multiple hammies being done in a single game like Essendon vs Hawthorn last week will become increasingly common.
Who’s your tip to win the AFL Premiership this year? Hawthorn are the dark horses and are coming home strong. But I’d back Geelong
in, too much experience in the big time. George-Horlin Smith to debut in the GF and nab the Norm-Smith too, get on it.
Where is the best place to head out in Adelaide after the infamous ‘Hour of Power’? I’m usually a bit of a Havelock fiend but have
gone off there recently. So maybe the Alma, just as long as the 24hr bakery’s involved it’s usually a good night.
Who’s going to win Wimbledon? Novak Djokovic to get past Nadal and his three-quarter length pants in the final
Have you been ‘studying’ in preparation for this weekend’s quiz night? If there’s anything to do with remote sensing I’m all over it,
haven’t had time to look at any besides that in the weeks leading up to exams
Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar? Chookie stole the cookie from the cookie jar? Nah, Catters…always blame Catters
