Welcome to the Pembroke King’s weekly newsletter – The King’s Speech. Each week it will fill you in on
the previous weeks happenings around the club as well as what to expect in the coming weeks.
At the half way point of the season the A-Grade are sitting 8 th on the ladder with 3 wins and 6 losses. This
gives the club an opportunity to turn the season around and improve on the first half. Both the A and B
grades the Division 3 are very close and no-one can be ruled out yet. With a strong finish in the second half
from both grades we could see either team in the 2011 finals.
It has been great to see strong performances from elder statesmen of the club Ben Hill-Ling, Scott
Wightman, Fraser Pinkney and Brad Ingerson who are having great years thus far. We have also seen this
season young guns like Jack Creevy, Jake Van Der Hoek and Matt Falzon stepping up from last year to
play important roles in the senior side. Most excitingly we have seen some great performances from first
year players Ben Wood, Max Griguol and Luke Boord. With their confidence growing keep an eye out for
them in the second half of the year.
The B-grade are sitting in 5 th position and could easily be in the top 3 with a few more wins from the next
few games. They have a great opportunity to be play in finals at the end of the year so we encourage all
players to prepare for the next half of season and aim to be bringing home a flag for the club.
Like the A-Grade the C’s are 3-6. We have seen some great wins from them and close losses. If they
maintain their good form they will likely climb the ladder and be looking to play in the finals.
This week’s triple header versus CBCOC is brought to you by Powerhouse Sports. The C-
Grade kick the day off at 10.15am and the A-grade and B-grade will play at normal times. It will be a great
opportunity for to watch the grades who you may normally miss due to the time clashes so make sure that
you get there early to help support all the boys who wear the green Guernseys.

Best Players - H. Nicholson, B. Hill-Ling, B. Ingerson, F. Pinkney
After last week’s victory against Golden Grove we travelled to Mitcham to take on the Hawks. For
the first time this season our side was reasonably settled only having to make the one change
with Nick McCann coming in for his injured brother Paul. The feeling before the game was pretty
good as we aimed to build momentum from the previous week. The game started terribly with
Mitcham smashing us around the contests and setting up easy entries into their forward line. Our
on ballers were well down and as a team we were being brushed aside by a more committed
opponent. The most disappointing aspect of the first half was the amount of tackles we missed
and our general lack of accountability. As a coach you can accept that some days things don’t go
your way but tackling is a state of mind and we missed far too many. By half time we were well
down…. I mean well down and being completely outclassed. The back line were trying their best
but at times it appeared as if they were being swamped by a tsunami of forward line attacks.
The game continued in this vain and to be honest the less said the better. Not surprisingly our
backline provided the majority of our better players with Nicho and Benny Hill-Ling trying their
hearts out. I have been around football long enough to understand that there are some days when
the football gods just aren’t on your side. To a degree Saturday was one of them but it would be silly
for us not to recognise our own deficiencies (and that includes the coach) in what was a terrible day
for the club. In the end we got beaten by a lot … and I mean a lot. As coach I apologise for the
performance and hope that you can believe me when I say that we are trying our best to improve.
We have a good group of men at the club and it is now more important than ever to stick together,
objectively analyse our own efforts and determine what we can do to improve our current situation
MITCHAM 21 9 135
Goal Scorers - R. Skibiki – 2, T. Jenkinson
Best Players - J. Blake. G. Jones, T. Brown, A. Burford, T. Moir
We were completely outplayed this week by a team who were bigger, stronger and much
more experienced. Our young side has been coping well so far but the inexperience
certainly caught up with this week.
Young Blakey put in another good performance and it was good see Tom Moir back after
being the runner for most of year. With match practice he is going to make a difference.
Another strong game from Corey although he was outmarked a few times by a much
bigger opponent. He also showed he cn fill in as ruckman if needed when Jonesy was
injured late in the game. Just as well we have a week off as the bench looked like a
casualty ward by the end of the game. Anyway we live to fight another day.
Next game is an early start due to a triple header, If you have Uni exams can you please
SMS me on 0413588274 before next Thursday night
Name Thomas Jenkinson
Nicknames: Bags, TJ, Terrible teej, Jenko, teej
DOB 10/04/1987
Occupation: student teacher/OSHC work
Marital Status: committed
What were your goals at the start of season 2011? At the half way point of
the season where do you stand with them? Be injury free this year and play
consistent footy, try and be a leader for the younger lads on the field. So far ive
been pretty lucky with injuries, thought I started the season well but have been a
little inaccurate in front of goal of late.
What is on Tom Jenkinson’s Saturday morning breakfast plate/bowl before
a game? Coffee, Muesli with yoghurt and a piece of toast with honey or apricot
jam.
What is your usual meal at the Kensi? Beef shnitty with mushroom sauce
Which song would be playing over your highlights reel? Karma by Parkway Drive
What was the last movie you saw and how many spuds? Blue Valentine – 4.5 spuds, awesome film!
What is the best TV show on at the moment? An idiot abroad, cos apparently I remind people of Karl Pilkington
If you could be anyone for a day who would it be? Justin Bieber so I wouldn’t need to shave for placement
What are your thoughts on the AFL subs rule? Probably not really needed, just play 4 on the bench instead.
Who’s your tip to win the AFL Premiership this year? Going to go for a smokey and say Carlton might upset
Geelong in the GF
What did you get up to over the long weekend? Few lazy days down at Goolwa!
Where is the best place to head out in Adelaide after the infamous ‘Hour of Power’? The Havy-Alma double
I’d say.
What are your views on the Australian cattle export ban? I think there are good cases for both sides, I don’t
think it is good treatment of the livestock (regardless of their destiny) but I understand how bad it is affecting the
transport companies and farmers who export.
Final Words - Good to be green

Name: Jake van der Hoek
Nicknames: Vanders, Hoeks, Hoeker, JB
DOB: 02/09/91
Occupation: Student
Marital Status: Taken
What were your goals at the start of season 2011? At the half way point of the season
where do you stand with them?
I was hoping to be playing some consistent a-grade football and getting plenty of wins on
the board, struggling a bit in that department but there’s a long way to go this year.
What is on Jake Van Der Hoek’s Saturday morning breakfast plate/bowl before a
game? Various rolls, occasionally a Subway, I have no consistent superstitions with pregame
meals.
What is your usual meal at the Kensi? Chicken schnitzel with gravy, followed by vodka
lemon lime and bitters.
Which song would be playing over your highlights reel? Tik Tok
What was the last movie you saw and how many spuds? Hangover Part 2 – 3 spuds
What is the best TV show on at the moment? I don’t think it’s on at the moment, but definitely get your hands on
Breaking Bad, top notch.
If you could be anyone for a day who would it be? Lionel Messi
What are your thoughts on the AFL subs rule? It is killing my DT!
Who’s your tip to win the AFL Premiership this year? Geelong over Collingwood on the first Saturday in
October.
What did you get up to over the long weekend? I had a disappointingly quiet one, missed out on Renmark
festivities and lack of hour of power really threw me off my game.
Where is the best place to head out in Adelaide after the infamous ‘Hour of Power’? Havelock/Alma/Bakery in
that order.
What are your views on the Australian cattle export ban? I think it’s good for the cows.
Final Words: Hate CBC gay sharks!

What is so fragile that when you say
it's name you break it?
Answer in next weeks edition
"What do you do if a bird poos on your windscreen?
Don't take her out again
Last week’s
A man went on a trip with a fox, a goose, and a sack of corn. He came upon a stream which he had to
cross and found a tiny boat to use to cross the stream. He could only take himself and one other - the fox,
the goose, or the corn - at a time. He could not leave the fox alone with the goose or the goose alone with
the corn. How does he get all safely over the stream? Take the goose over first and come back. Then
take the fox over and bring the goose back. Now take the corn over and come back alone to get the
goose. Take the goose over and the job is done
