AWARDS, ANNUAL MEETING, DANCE SATURDAY, JAN. 14 AT SEVEN SEAS
The Mandan Horse & Saddle Club's 2011 end-of-the-season and 2012 kickoff celebration will
be held Saturday, Jan. 14 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Seven Seas Inn, Mandan. Here’s a rundown
of how to prepare and what to expect:
6 p.m. – Social, Potluck & Silent
Auction. Vollmer Angus Ranch (Troy and
Sara) is providing shredded beef and the
club will provide buns for sandwiches. Please bring a dish to share and an appetizer or dessert.
Please also bring an item for the silent auction to support the Mandan Horse & Saddle Club's
purchase of prizes for the 2012 season. There will be a cash bar. Invite family and friends to
share in the fun! We ask that all kids be accompanied by a parent or other adult.
7 p.m. – Annual Meeting
The primary agenda item is the election of officers and board members for 2012. A slate of
candidates will be presented for member consideration at the meeting. If you are interested in
serving on the board, please call President Tammy Backhaus, 258-5368.

CLUB INFO section
7:30 p.m. – Awards Presentation
· Beginner Participation Trophies for those present.
· Year-End Event, All-Around and Reserve All-
Around Awards—for contestants in each age division
on the basis of points earned at the four rodeos. Event
prizes sponsored in part by Dakota Community Bank.
· Becky Fisher Memorial Traveling Trophy—For the
contestant (any age) who earned the most points in
timed and game events during the season.
· Buddy Kahl Memorial Traveling Trophy "Beginner Persistent Rider Award"—
for the beginner contestant earning the most points who did not earn an all-around award
during the season.
· Sportsmanship Award—selected by a vote of members, generally bestowed on a
member who makes a positive contribution to the club, going above and beyond.
8:30 to 12:30 p.m. - Dance
DJ music by Nightlife Entertainment, $5 admission for non-members attending dance only.

The Seven Seas is holding a block of rooms through Jan. 1 at a rate of $89. Call 663-7401 and
be sure to mention you’re with the Mandan Horse and Saddle Club.
JACKETS FOR HIGH SCHOOL CONTESTANTS TO BE PRESENTED
Mandan Horse & Saddle Club members who were new contestants in the N.D. High School
Rodeo Association in 2011 and high school rodeo contestants who were new members of the
MHSC in 2011 will receive denim jackets from the club at the Jan. 14 awards celebration. The
jackets are being purchased for the fourth year in a row with a portion of proceeds from the
August high school rodeo.
MEMBERSHIP STABLE, PAY DUES JAN. 14 TO WIN DOOR PRIZES
The club continued to enjoy strong participation in 2011 with109 total memberships and many
non-member contestants. Numbers were similar to 2010. Those who pay dues at the 2012
annual meeting will have their names entered into a drawing for gift cards and other prize
items. Dues are $50 for a family (parents or guardians and their unmarried, dependent children
less than 24 years of age as of Jan. 1) or $30 for an individual. For families, each member
present will be eligible for the door prizes. Individual members receive one chance in the
drawing.

A few expenses remain for the annual awards
celebration. These will be reflected on the 2012
financials.
Equipment purchases in 2011 were the new roping
chute, hand switch and two laptop computers used in
processing entries and tracking payouts and points for
rodeos. Ideas for 2012 include a new equipment shed.
Lights and restrooms remain on the dream list.

ARENA AVAILABLE FOR SUBLEASE
The cost is $100 per day for horseshows, timed event
competitions or horsemanship seminars or $200 for
rodeos or any event involving rough stock (bareback,
saddle bronc, or bull riding). Equal amounts are
required as a deposit. Subleasing of the arena for any
rodeo or rough stock event requires advance approval
of the MHSC board of directors. Proof of insurance is
also required. For more info, call MHSC President

was left behind at the Wild West Rodeo. Please
