Family rodeos are scheduled as follows: · June 9 · July 7 · August 11 · September 15 - Wild West Rodeo · Rain-out dates: Aug. 19 and Sept. 23 The slate of events remains the same. The event order was adjusted slightly, putting the keyhole race ahead of goat tying. Entry fees were increased to accommodate a rising stock fees and other fixed costs like insurance, judging fees, arena and porta potty rent. See enclosed flyer for more info. Details about each rodeo will be made available as sponsors and prizes are confirmed. If you havent provided your e-mail address, please do so by sending an e-mail to President Sara Vollmer at troy@vollmerangus.com. Buckles will be awarded to all-around winners at all rodeos with reserve all-around through fifth overall winners receiving other terrific prizes. The exception is the Wild West Rodeo. Buckles will be awarded to event winners. All-around winners in each age group will receive saddles provided sponsors can be secured by July 1. Year-end prizes will be awarded to all-around, reserve all-around and event winners based on points at four family rodeos. The year-end awards celebration will be held in January or February. RULES CLARIFIED<br />

New rulebooks are posted on the website at<br />

www.m<strong>and</strong>anhorse<strong>and</strong>saddle.com <strong>and</strong> will be<br />

available at rodeos. Changes made for <strong>2012</strong><br />

included the following clarifications:<br />

· Circling a horse after entering the date <strong>and</strong> prior<br />

to running is allowed.<br />

· Procedure for the h<strong>and</strong>ling of a tie between<br />

contestants in an event if a material prize is<br />

involved, another prize will be awarded. Points<br />

<strong>and</strong> monetary prizes will be split equally<br />

between or among contestants tying in an<br />

event.<br />

Grievance procedure if the grievance is about an<br />

event or a judges decision in an event, the<br />

grievance must be presented to the committee by<br />

the end of the event or before the next event begins<br />

FACEBOOK PAGE TO EXTEND OUTREACH<br />

The MHSC board determined that launching a<br />

Facebook page for the club in <strong>2012</strong> would be<br />

beneficial. It will be administered by the youth<br />

directors with assistance from adult board<br />

members. Purposes will include:<br />

· To provide a means for members <strong>and</strong> friends to<br />

share info such as<br />

o Photos from rodeos<br />

o Inquiries about partners in team roping<br />

o Travel planning<br />

· Issuing reminders to enter rodeos <strong>and</strong> news<br />

about coming events<br />

· Sharing links to sponsoring companies <strong>and</strong><br />

organizations.<br />

EVENT COORDINATOR POSITIONS NEARLY<br />

FILLED, POLE BENDING HELPS NEEDED<br />

MATCHING FUNDS APPROVED FOR SHED<br />

The club applied for two grants this year. The<br />

<strong>M<strong>and</strong>an</strong> Park Board approved $1,250 in matching<br />

funds toward the purchase of a new equipment<br />

storage shed. A second application was submitted<br />

to the <strong>M<strong>and</strong>an</strong> Progress Organization for a City of<br />

<strong>M<strong>and</strong>an</strong> event grants. The club has not received<br />

notice of a decision on the latter application.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL & JR HIGH RODEOS PLANNED<br />

The board has again approved scheduling N.D.<br />

High School Rodeo Association season rodeos on<br />

Aug. 25-25 <strong>and</strong> a N.D. Junior High Division Rodeo<br />

on Sept. 16. More donations <strong>and</strong> volunteerism will<br />

be needed for both rodeo weekends. Planning<br />

meetings will be held later in the year.<br />

INCENTIVES OFFERED TO VOLUNTEERS<br />

The club is introducing a trial program in <strong>2012</strong> to<br />

encourage more advance help with the high school<br />

<strong>and</strong> junior high rodeos hosted by the club. The<br />

incentives are also intended to entice more<br />

volunteerism from member families that dont have<br />

contestants in high school or junior high rodeos <strong>and</strong><br />

to reward those who do assist.<br />

· Criteria Members 10 years of age or older<br />

who:<br />

o Secure at least $200 in sponsorship<br />

o Volunteer/assist at least 2 hours in advance<br />

of rodeo<br />

o Volunteer/assist at least 2 hours during<br />

rodeo<br />

Volunteerism will be tracked through preregistration<br />

with the rodeo chair for needed tasks.<br />

· Incentive MHSC gift certificates <br />

redeemable toward entry fees at family rodeos<br />

(expire within 1 year from time of issuance)<br />

o $25 for achieving one of the criteria<br />

o $50 for achieving two<br />

o $75 for achieving three


HELP NEEDED EVENINGS BEFORE RODEOS<br />

The board of directors appreciated the way club<br />

members <strong>and</strong> families jump in to help as needed at<br />

rodeos. A little more help is needed evenings prior<br />

to family rodeos. The club will buy pizza <strong>and</strong><br />

beverages in <strong>2012</strong> for those who show up the<br />

evening before (about 7 p.m. or so) to assist with<br />

ground prep, any staking of patterns, roping off of<br />

areas where parking is not allowed, etc. Stay tuned<br />

for e-mail <strong>and</strong>/or Facebook messages from MHSC<br />

President Sara Vollmer.<br />

The <strong>M<strong>and</strong>an</strong> <strong>Horse</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Saddle</strong> <strong>Club</strong> honored<br />

AUCTION RAISES FUNDS FOR CLUB<br />

Thank you to all who donated, bid on <strong>and</strong><br />

purchased items at the silent auction held at the<br />

annual celebration. A total of $1,636.50 was raised<br />

to help cover expenses for the evening (awards<br />

<strong>and</strong> DJ) as well as the upcoming season.<br />

Brooke Peterson, Minot, was honored with the<br />

Buddy Kahl Memorial Traveling "Beginner<br />

Persistent Rider" Trophy. The trophy is presented<br />

to the contestant in the age 9 <strong>and</strong> under division<br />

who earns the most points during the season, yet<br />

who did not win an all-around award at a rodeo.<br />

Caydon Roshau was last years recipient.<br />

Caydon Roshau received the Becky Fisher<br />

Memorial Traveling Trophy as the contestant who<br />

earned the most points in timed <strong>and</strong> game events.<br />

Tammy Backhaus, was chosen by members to<br />

receive the club's traveling Sportsmanship Award<br />

for her volunteerism which has included serving as<br />

club president for two years, entry coordinator for<br />

2011, <strong>and</strong> organizing the clubs first junior high<br />

school rodeo in 2011.<br />

<strong>Club</strong> members also elected directors for the <strong>2012</strong><br />

season as listed on the cover page.<br />
