The KENT Systems Product line started as a diverse assortment of interchangeable 

quick couplings for fluid, vacuum, pneumatics and more. 

We offer our products to a wide range of markets from medical systems to 

fuel systems. For over 10 years our business and market share has grown 

and expanded. And with the support of our fantastic customers, we have 

expanded our product lines. 

We now offer Quick Couplings, Luer Fittings, Tube Fittings, Tubing, and off 

the shelf Media Bags. 

In other words, we can fit a wide range of applications. Chances are, we can 

help you with your applications too. 

A QUICK HISTORY 

The KENT Systems collection 1 product line was invented by Kent Sampson 

while he and his wife, Gloria, owned Value Plastics. In 2001 Kent and Gloria 

decided to take the KENT Systems product line and create a separate 

company. Later that same year their son, Lyle, and daughter-in-law, Linda, 

came to work for them. 

In 2007 Kent and Gloria decided they wanted to retire, so they sold their 

company to Lyle and Linda. However, their retirement was short lived. 

They continue to come to work with Lyle and Linda every day and are 

instrumental in the day-to-day operations. 

For more than 10 years KENT Systems has launched additional quick 

coupling collection lines, tube fittings, media bags, tubing, and luers. In the 

years to come KENT Systems will launch even more innovative products and 

solutions for businesses.

beautiful Rocky Mountains they design, mold, assemble, and ship products

more intuitive. The KENT Systems Quick Couplings 

have 4 primary advantages over other couplings

INTUITIVE DESIGN 

Through a lot of testing and customer feedback, we have discovered that 

KENT Systems quick couplings are more intutive. In-fact, we discovered 

when people are confronted with a coupling of unknown design, their first 

attempt at disconnecting the coupling, is to twist the products in an attempt 

to disconnect them. This came as a bit of a shock to the marketing team here 

at KENT Systems, but it was common knowledge to our founder. The man 

that based the entire product around the idea that a simple design takes 

more time to perfect, but makes for a better product.

Coupling Flow Options 

QUICK COUPLING FLOW OPTIONS 

The KENT Systems products offer several flow options referred to as a “class”. 

The class of the connector determines if it is an Open-Flow, Triggering 

Open-Flow, or Shut-Off connector. By combining the male and female 

connectors of different classes in different combinations, the couplings will 

produce various results. Examples of the class system interacting together 

will be outlined throughout the catalog. 

X CLASS COUPLINGS 

Our X Class Couplings are used when the application 

requires a Shut-Off valve. 

W CLASS 

Some application requires flow of a fluid with stringy particals such as pulp, 

hair or certain biologies. 

If you have an application like this, our W Class couplings are your ideal 

choice. The W Class is designed to have a smoother fluid path which keeps 

the particals from becoming intangled within the couplings. Due to the 

specialized nature of this sort of application, internal shut-off valves are not 

recommended. 

W CLASS COUPLINGS 

Our W Class Couplings are used when the application 

requires no Shut-Off valve. 

X Class couplings come in both male and female configurations and are a 

very cost effective solution for a number of applications. 

Key features include. 

• Internal Valve 

• Shuts off flow when disconnected 

Y CLASS COUPLINGS 

Our Y Class Couplings are used when the application 

may only require one Shut-Off Valve. 

W Class couplings come in both male and female configurations and are a

SPECIAL CONFIGURATIONS 

One additional benefit to the W Class coupling is it can be used in 

conjunction with a shut-off coupling to produce a Check Valve configuration. 

In this configuration, once the line pressure exceeds 10 PSI, fluid will flow 

from the open-flow couping towards the shut-off coupling. Fluid will be 

unable to flow the other direction. 

Y Class couplings come in both male and female configurations and are a

The most powerful aspect of our product is our Patented Cam Valve. This 

patented valve design allows the user to connect and disconnect the 

coupling at high pressure without fighting the line pressure.

Function 

The Shut-Off couplings prevent fluid or gas from escaping the coupling while 

you are connecting the couplings. The O-Rings creates a seal and the locking 

lugs hold the couplings together before the Shut-Off valve begins to open. This 

makes for an easy connection even in high pressure applications. 



Quick Couplings Overview 

A KENT SYSTEMS COMPARISON 

Push Button Style 

A common quick coupling is the push button style coupling. The advantages 

of the KENT Systems 

coupling over a push button 

coupling are safety, ease of 

use, and efficiency. A push-button 

quick coupling will accidentally disconnect 

by just tapping the button and since they are 

spring loaded, the disconnect may be overly forceful. A 

common problem in some situations is the button may be hard 

to find especially if it is on the underside of an application, in a position that 

may be hard to press. At high pressures, the push button design is difficult 

to insert and dangerous when the couplings accidentally fly apart. With a 

quarter turn quick coupling the user can grip anywhere on the base of the 

product and turn it to connect and disconnect. Also, the ease of connecting 

and disconnecting is the same regardless of the pressure. 

Luer Style 

In comparing a KENT Systems quick coupling to a 

luer, the quick coupling is the obvious choice, this 

is because of the disadvantages of the luer design. 

For instance, the luer can easily be over tightened and 

can be accidentally disconnected. Luers are prone to leaking 

and do not have internal shut-off valves. Without an internal shut off valve 

the luers leak when disconnected or they require the user to first turn off a 

secondary valve. Adding a secondary operation increases the chances that 

mistakes will happen. Another problem that has plagued luers is that they 

are a common connector. In fact, luers are used in everything from oxygen 

to IV systems. This opens up the posibility of tragic mistakes resulting 

from simple human error. The KENT Systems products are intentionally 

incompatible with luers to reduce the serious and dangerous risk of cross 

connections historically experienced with luers. 

A COMPARISON CONTINUED 

Collar Style 

A collared quick disconnect is another popular choice when choosing a 

quick disconnect, but it too 

has many disadvantages. 

The collar can be difficult to 

move and the disconnected 

piece can become a potential hazard 

by flying across the room. The collared 

quick disconnect is more difficult to connect than 

KENT Systems’ quick coupling, because the collar needs 

to be pulled back and held while the connection is taking place. This can 

be cumbersome and more difficult to achieve when compared to KENT 

Systems quarter turn coupling. With a quarter turn connect, the individual 

is always in control of the product. 

Barb Fitting 

A barbed fitting is a often used as a cheap method 

to connect and disconnect hoses, when a quick 

coupling should be used instead. When a user wants 

to disconnect a tube from a fitting, they simply pull the 

tube off the barb fitting. Over time this method damages both hose and 

fitting making it ineffective. In addition, the disconnection can be unsafe 

when the hose lets loose and flies in the users face. KENT Systems couplings 

connect and disconnect at the base, not the barb, this ensures a safer 

connection without wearing out the tubing and the barb. 

Push-In Style 

Another method of connecting tubing to a fitting is a tube push-in fitting. 

In this case the user takes a rigid tube 

and pushes it into the fitting. The fitting 

grips the tube by cutting into the 

outside of the tubing. The disadvantage 

is that the tube is difficult to remove. The 

user is forced to use rigid and unruly tubing. KENT 

Systems couplings can be connected and disconnected 

many times, and a variety of tubing can be used from rigid to soft. KENT 

Systems couplings give more options to the user.

SINGLE BARB VS. MULTIPLE BARB 

When you compare KENT Systems products to what is currently in the 

market you will notice a different approach in the design of our 

tube barb. Traditionally, hose fittings have 

been manufactured with a multi barb 

configuration containing parting lines on 

each of the barbs. 

SINGLE BARB VS. MULTIPLE BARB 

The key advantages of a single barb system are: 

• Tubing can relax behind the barb providing a better seal 

• No parting line on the barb surface therefore eliminating potential leak 

paths 

• Easier to assemble 

• Increases psi performance 

• Eliminates the use of hose clamps in most applications 

Years ago, before starting his own fitting company, our founder Kent 

Sampson, fought with the multi barb fittings. Like others, he found 

that the barbs leaked and required constant 

tightening of tube clamps. Determined 

to find a solution, he designed a single 

barb with no parting lines on the sealing 

surface of the barb. This ingenious idea 

resulted in a far better barb fitting. 

At KENT Systems we have used the proven knowledge of our customers 

along with our personal experience to create a better sealing barb system. 

Just imagine, if we put this much time and testing into our barbs, consider 

what goes into the rest of our products.

• Parting lines that cause leak paths 

• Difficult to assemble

What is a Media Bag? It is a flexible bag used to hold and transport water, 

ink, or many other medias. 

Most people are familiar with medical IV bags, but some people overlook 

packaging their own products in a media bag. Well, it is time to consider the 

benefits of flexible packaging for your products.

something a little crazy... we filled a bag with ink and ran

Technical 

CHEMICAL COMPATIBILITY 

Our products are leak tested before they are shipped, so you should never 

find one of our products to leak. If you ever find that one of our products is 

leaking, chances are you are looking at a chemical compatibility issue. Don’t 

worry, this is an issue that we can solve with a little testing and your help. 

CHEMICAL COMPATIBILITY SYMPTOMS 

Chemical Compatibility Symptoms 

• Hard Connection or Disconnection 

• Valve “Freezing“ 

The first thing to keep in mind is that you should test every chemical you 

plan to use with the product. The fact that water worked fine in the first test, 

has little relevance to the acid that you actually intend to use. 

Next, know what to look for. If you find that the couplings are harder to 

• Leaking from the Coupling 

• Leaking from the Valve 

We specialize in solutions and can solve most chemical issues 

connect then they have been in the past, you might be looking at a chemical 

compatibility issue. In an extreme case, if you find that the Shut-Off valves 

“Freeze“ open, then you are very likely looking at a chemical issue. No, the 

products are not designed to work that way, and no it is not a flaw in the 

product design. What is happening is, at least one of the materials is swelling 

from the chemical, and because of the close tolerance of our products, the 

valve is clamped open. Again, this is easily solved with a little testing. 

Don’t be afraid to talk to us about any issues that you may have, in most 

cases we can easily solve it. After all, we have a very good idea what we are 

doing here. 

The table listed here is a good place to start your testing. If you see that 

any of the chemicals are listed as less then good, you may need a different 

material then what is on our standard products. Go ahead, call us at

We warranty products manufactured by KENT Systems to be free of defects 

in material and workmanship. If our products do not meet these criteria, we 

will replace or repair the defective products as long as they are returned to 

KENT Systems within 60 days of the invoice date with a KENT Systems Return 

Authorization. No warranty of merchantability, fitness or any other 

warranty is expressed or implied. KENT Systems is not liable for damages, 

consequential or otherwise, or for any expense incurred through the use,

RETURN POLICY 

If KENT Systems shipped you products that do not meet the terms of our 

warranty, or if we have made an error in filling your order, please contact us 

within 30 days so that we can discuss an appropriate corrective action. In 

order to maintain traceability and product quality, products that leave our 

facility are not restocked or sold. For this reason, we can not issue a return 

authorization on product that has been out of our control or ordered due to 

customer error. In most cases we can not accept product back.
