roller, our unique Deluxe Roller Bracket system allows you to butt two shades together using only 

one bracket on the butt connection, thereby reducing the gap between the shades. On orders with 

multiple shades - if one shade requires railroading, at our discretion we may railroad all the shades 

in order to maintain the same dimensional look of the fabric. To ensure color matching, all shades 

should be ordered for the same room at one time. Hold down brackets are available for all roller

Our Standard Roller System was developed to provide excellent performance over a wide range of window shade sizes, fabric 

weights, and fabric thickness. The manufacturing process does not involve the use of adhesives or sewing and always produces a 

clean and professional finish to the shade. Our roller tubes and bottom rail are designed with patented, longitudinal fabric-fixing 

slots of varying widths. The manufacturing method used ensures that the fabric will remain firmly attached to the roller and will not 

become detached in normal use. The varying widths of the slots allow fabrics of various thickness to be accommodated easily. An 

added benefit of the slots is that they increase the rigidity of the tubes, enabling shades to span wider openings without the risk of 

the tubes bowing when the shade is operated. Our patented, safety-first end cap locking system prevents the blind from coming out 

of its brackets if the blind is operated incorrectly. Our bead chain control is available in four (4) colors; white, ivory, gray and 

brown. The aluminum bottom rail is fabric wrapped for absolute color coordination and aesthetics.

Deluxe Roller System 

We have spared no expense to bring you the finest 

quality roller shade system on the market today. 

Clutch and pin end use the same bracket. This 

design allows bracket sharing, which reduces the 

light gap on multiple shades. The spring-loaded end 

plug with telescoping pin makes installation easier 

by allowing a full 1/4” variation in measurements. 

The bracket cover gives your shade a more finished 

look. Our 1 1/4” aluminum roller tube and 8lb 

clutch set is strong enough to handle an 8’ wide by 

10’ long shade without the slightest hint of bow or 

slippage. For our grasscloths and heavy vinyl shades 

we use a 1 5/8” roller tube and a 16lb clutch. For 

commercial applications, we offer a 2” roller tube 

and a 24lb clutch as a no-charge option. The 

extruded aluminum bottom rail is fabric wrapped for 

total color coordination. This is used for all roller 

shades with the exception of grasscloths. Due to the 

thickness of that material we use an enclosed flat 

metal bar.

Sun Fading, Bias, Warpage 

Product Notes: Some variations in color, minimal warpage and significant material bias may occur. This includes a slight 

camber (arching out) of the shade. Additionally, the edges of a shade may appear uneven due to slat and yarn migration. 

These are all natural occurring tendencies of all woven wood products and are considered acceptable. To ensure color 

matching, all shades should be ordered for the same room at one time. 

Bamboo is green when harvested. Over time it will gradually turn a yellow-brown. Therefore, any attempt to color match 

bamboo shades with exact room colors will fail initially. Please allow several weeks for bamboo shades to reach their final 

color. The final color may or may not match the current swatch sample in our book. Returns for color variations will not 

be accepted. Please make your customer aware of this. The gap between multiple shades on one headrail is 1/4”. The 

Simple Ascent lift system is not available for 3 or more shades on one headrail.

Our Melhanna collection combines the traditional classic look of woven wood with the styles and materials 

designed to please today’s fashion-conscious consumer. With four (4) styles and two (2) specialty 

applications to choose from, Melhanna woven woods will fit beautifully into a wide array of decorating 

schemes. Manufactured using the finest top-quality materials and components available, your Melhanna 

woven wood shades will provide years of enjoyment with only minimal care. 

Privacy Liner - Must be requested when order is placed. It cannot be added or removed after the shade 

has been fabricated. 

Our Arch is constructed with small rings near the outer edges and is installed with cup hooks. Bottom 

Rail is a standard fabric fold. 

Our A-Frame is designed with an extra large valance that extends across the woven wood in a straight 

horizontal line beginning at the base of the angle. It can be raised and lowered up to the bottom angle. 

Installation - Outside mount - Hidden brackets with wing nuts are used for all outside mounts. 

Extension blocks are available for additional projection. 

Installation - Inside mount - You may use our universal hidden brackets with wing nuts or simply screw 

the wooden head rail directly to the inside upper sill. 

We now offer either a privacy (7141) or room darkening (7140) pleated shade 

using our twin head rail system for the same price as a drapery liner. 

The twin head rail system allows for a pleated or cellular shade to be used as a 

liner behind the woven wood. We mount it for you so the installation is simple. 

Plus the controls for both are accessible from the front of the woven wood. 

If you would rather use a different style or color of shade than indicated in the 

chart above, please refer to the paragraph below for optional selections and 

pricing information. 

The following shade styles are available for use with the twin head rail system. 

All Alanna pleated and Solanna cellular 7/16” cells can be used. Price both

a little investigating. What turned up was not totally unexpected. These satisfied customers had one thing in common. They informed their customers 

during the sale process not only about the features and benefits of the product but also about the limitations. In other words, they did not 

oversell the product. Our goal is to help you achieve greater profits by informing you, your sales personnel and consequently the consumer of the

Melhanna Woven Wood 

• Will the new woven woods match in color and 

texture to the ones you installed for me last month? 

When our suppliers paint, dye or extrude the 

materials we use to fabricate our products, there are slight 

coloration changes from each run. For example, when our 

wood finisher paints slats in our color pure white, the final 

color is affected by both temperature and humidity. If one 

run is produced when the temperature is 78º and the 

humidity is 60% and the next run is produced when the 

temperature is 82º and the humidity is 78%, these climate 

differences will cause each run of pure white slats to vary 

slightly in color. 

• Will my window covering discolor or fade? 

Discoloration is usually defined as a color that 

changes negatively and is generally used to describe a loss in a 

colors intensity or the yellowing of the color. Discoloration or 

fading can be caused by many factors including but not limited 

to the temperature and humidity of the home, chemical 

cleaning agents, long-term sun exposure, cigarette or cigar 

smoke, general cleanliness of the home and the age of the 

product. Even though we use the finest materials available, 

including the latest UV (ultraviolet) resistant finishes, a reasonable 

amount of discoloration, over time, is to be expected. 

The sun’s rays are very damaging to vinyl and fabric materials. 

Over time, you can expect the side of the product that faces 

the sun to become slightly faded and a yellow cast or tint may 

become apparent. 

• Will my woven woods match the sample that is shown 

in the sample book? 

Many woven wood materials will gradually change 

color over time naturally. Bamboo, starts out green, slowly 

changes to yellow and finally to a brownish yellow. The 

sun’s rays are very damaging and, over time, you can 

expect that the side of the product that faces the sun will 

become slightly faded and a yellow cast or tint may 

become apparent. Even though we use the finest materials, 

a reasonable amount of discoloration, over time, is to be 

expected. 

• Will the slats and yarns on my woven woods be 

straight and stay straight? 

Woven wood material is constructed using a combination 

of far-eastern wood slats and yarn. The yarn holds 

the slats in position but not tightly. Pushing on either side 

of the shade will cause the slats to create a bulging out 

effect on the opposite side. You can press on the bulge and 

straighten the sides of the shade, but the yarns will be 

slightly out of their vertical position. This happens to 

some degree every time the shade is raised or lowered. The 

movement is slight, but, over time, the cumulative effect 

can become noticeable. This is an inherent by-product in 

the construction of all woven woods and considered 

acceptable. 

• How are the liners on the Melhanna Woven Woods 

attached? 

We attach our 

woven wood liner using 

the standard industry 

method. However, we 

agree there must be a 

better way to provide a 

lined woven wood. 

Check out our new twin 

rail system that uses a 

pleated or cellular shade as the liner. 

• What is considered an acceptable tolerance for color or 

texture match? 

The commercial tolerance for an acceptable color or 

texture match is a 2-foot separation. If there is no discernible 

difference between two colors or textures when placed two 

feet apart the difference is considered acceptable. The many 

factors that influence color and texture make it impossible to 

paint, dye or extrude materials that match perfectly from run 

to run. There will always be slight differences. However, our 

experience has shown that these differences are not significant 

and can only be seen if the materials are placed next to each 

other. Holding the materials 2 feet apart, you will not be able 

to see a discernible difference. This is the standard to which

we hold our vendors. It should not be an issue as long as your 

customer orders all the window coverings for a single room at 

the same time. 

• If wood slats can have bow, camber or twist what problems 

might one encounter when using woven wood shade window 

coverings? 

Like wood blinds fabric can also have bow, camber and 

twist. When referring to fabric it is sometimes called bias. All 

woven fabrics have bias regardless of fiber content. “Bias” can 

be seen in 3 different forms. 

Woven woods have all three bias forms present as well, 

due to the yarns stretching as the material is woven on looms. 

Front to back (twist). A spiral distortion along the 

length of a piece of fabric. How the fabric is slit, glued or woven 

at the mills is the cause of all 

fabric bias twist. 

Top to bottom (vertical) 

bow is a curvature in the longitudinal 

direction causing the 

fabric to move away from a flat 

plane. Print patterns and stitching 

and glue lines make up the 

majority of vertical (bow) bias 

problems. 

Side to side (horizontal) 

camber is a curvature of the horizontal direction causing fabric 

to move away from a flat plane. Print patterns and stitching and 

glue lines make up the majority of horizontal (camber) bias 

problems. 

We list the acceptable standards used in determining 

the bias you may experience under each product’s specifications. 

It is important to make your customers aware that these 

bias issues are an inherent part of the fabric used in the fabrication 

of the product they selected, and are considered normal. 

Melhanna Grass Cloths

the shade, and where the material is cut. But it will only fray 

to the first yarn line.

• Why does my Melhanna roller shade roll up crooked? 

Telescoping refers to the material rolling up 

unevenly on the roller, resulting in an overhang of fabric on 

one end. This can occur if the shade material is not placed 

squarely on the roller system. Most of the time, telescoping 

is the result of a non-level installation of the roller system. 

This generally occurs on an inside-mounted product in a 

window casing that is not level to begin with. This product 

must be installed perfectly level in order to function properly. 

This can be achieved by using a level for an outside 

mount installation and a level and shims for an insidemount 

installation.

• What is Mottle? 

Mottle, also referred to as blotches, is a term used 

to describe a material’s inconsistent appearance in color or 

texture. Any light-filtering fabric held up to a light source 

will have some mottling. Cellular and pleated shades, freehang 

vertical fabrics and Treanna fabrics have a certain 

degree of mottling. These fabrics look uniform or solid 

when laid on a surface that allows no light to go through 

the fabric. Some sections of the fabric will be darker (lets 

less light in) while others will be lighter (more light comes 

through). The pattern is not regular, so one shade’s light 

and dark areas will not be the same from one shade to the 

next. This randomness is characteristic and is part of the 

beauty and warmth that fabric provides. If you find this 

objectionable, you may want to select a totally opaque 

window covering such as a wood blind or PVC vertical.

• If wood slats can have bow, camber or twist what problems 

might one encounter when using fabric window coverings? 

Like wood blinds, fabric can also have bow, camber 

and twist. When referring to fabric it is sometimes called bias. 

All woven fabrics have bias regardless of fiber content. “Bias” 

can be seen in 3 different forms. 

Woven woods have all three bias forms present as 

well, due to the yarns stretching as the material is woven on 

looms. 

Cellular shades can have all three forms of bias 

depending on how well each 

cell is glued to the previous 

cell in the machine gluing 

process. This is especially true 

with 2 on 1 headrail shades, 

where one shade twists toward 

the window, while the other 

shade twists toward the room’s 

interior. 

Front to back (twist). A 

spiral distortion along the 

length of a piece of fabric. 

How the fabric is slit, glued, or woven at the mills is the cause 

of all fabric bias twist. 

Top to bottom (vertical) bow is a curvature in the 

longitudinal direction causing the fabric to move away from a 

flat plane. Print patterns and stitching and glue lines make up 

the majority of vertical (bow) bias problems. 

Side to side (horizontal) camber is a curvature of the 

horizontal direction causing fabric to move away from a flat 

plane. Print patterns and stitching and glue lines make up the 

majority of horizontal (camber) bias problems. 

We list the acceptable standards used in determining 

the bias you may experience under each product’s specifications. 

It is important to make your customer aware that these 

bias issues are an inherent part of the fabric used in the fabrication 

of the product they selected and are considered normal.
