68 <strong>Madhusudan</strong> <strong>Das</strong> :<br />
he went to Ahmedabad to seek help from Mahatma Gandhi. After<br />
that meeting correspondence between the two great men continued.<br />
Mahatma Gandhi had written some letters to Mr. <strong>Das</strong> two of which<br />
has been reproduced here. In different contexts Mahatmaji had also<br />
commented on Mr. <strong>Das</strong> with much appreciation. Some of these<br />
comments and appreciation are reproduced in the following pages.<br />
The details of letters and comments on <strong>Madhusudan</strong> are :-<br />
I. Letter to Mr. <strong>Madhusudan</strong> from Russa Road, Calcutta. This letter<br />
had been taken from Miss Soilabala <strong>Das</strong> papers.<br />
II. An extract from letter to G.D. Birla written from Patna dated<br />
Sept. 27, 1925 ( Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi, Vol.-<br />
XXVIII, Page 248-49)<br />
III. <strong>Madhusudan</strong> had delivered a lecture on Dignity of Labour at<br />
the Bihar Youngmens Institute Hall, Patna on Feb. 17, 1924.<br />
Mahatma Gandhi had reprinted a part of the lecture and<br />
commented on it. Both, the part of the lecture and comment,<br />
had been published in ' Young India ' in its Sept. 9, 1926 issue<br />
( Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi Vol. XXXI, Page 381-<br />
82)<br />
IV. This extract is from the article ' Swadeshi Vs. Foreign' It was<br />
first published in Gujarati in the paper 'Navajivan' in its issue<br />
of June 19, 1927 (Collected Works, Vol. XXXIV, Page 26 )<br />
V. In a speech at opening of Khadi Exhibition at Bangalore on 3rd<br />
July, 1927 Mahatma Gandhi had lauded the role of Mr. <strong>Das</strong>. This<br />
is an extract from that speech published in 'The Hindu' in its 4th<br />
July 1927 issue (Collected Works, Vol. XXXIV, Page 105)<br />
VI. This observation was published in 'Young India' on 3rd Nov.<br />
1927 under the title 'Cow-protection'. It has not yet been<br />
reprinted in the Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi.<br />
VII. This letter to Mr. <strong>Das</strong> was written from Satyagraha Ashram,<br />
Sabarmati on Mar. 16, 1928 (Collected Works, Vol. XXXVI,<br />

VIII. This is from the comments of Gandhiji published in "Young<br />
