he was the first Indian Minister to declare the hollowness of the much
advertised Montford Reforms and to resign his high office. After his
acceptance of the ministry, I had the occasion to preside over the first
non-co-operation meeting at Cuttack in 1921 which not only recorded
a vote of condemnation to the so-called reforms, but also deprecated
the acceptance of the ministry by Mr. Das.
Mr. Das's intellect and memory up to his ripe age of 84 were
clear. His death has left a gap in Orissa which has not been and cannot
be filled up in several years to come.
