350 participants attending last year,<br />

this will be the biggest camp to date<br />

with some new facilitators and exciting<br />

new initiatives!<br />

Recreational activities are organized<br />

every afternoon and include sailing,<br />

swimming, canoeing, bike riding,<br />

abseiling, ropes courses, basketball and<br />

soccer - all supervised by Department of<br />

Sport and Recreation staff.<br />

Why Should I Go?<br />

SYA Summer Camp is a fantastic<br />

opportunity to understand and learn<br />

more about <strong>Sikh</strong>ism; develop self<br />

esteem; meet other proud <strong>Australia</strong>n<br />

<strong>Sikh</strong>s; participate in interactive and nonjudgmental<br />

debates, discussion groups,<br />

Kirtan, yoga, sports and adventurous<br />

activities. And most of all have fun!<br />

In 2011 we will be building on our<br />

strengths from past years as well<br />

as introducing some new exciting<br />

activities including:<br />

• Special programs for the young Mighty<br />

Khalsas and Bahadur Bachey groups<br />

• Exciting interactive sessions on <strong>Sikh</strong><br />

history<br />

• Lessons on turban tying, kirtan & tabla<br />

endless Gurdwara<br />

session!<br />

All programs are delivered in an<br />

interactive, FUN and relaxed learning<br />

environment with English as the primary<br />

medium. It is a camp where you can make<br />

new friends whilst immersing yourself<br />

in the knowledge and understanding of<br />

<strong>Sikh</strong>ism and grow spiritually.<br />

Who Should Attend?<br />

<strong>Sikh</strong>s of all ages - including parents,<br />

grandparents and families - are most<br />

welcome. All participants, including<br />

parents, will be divided into age groups<br />

so you can meet other <strong>Sikh</strong> youths your<br />

own age. Those participants aged below<br />

12 years will need to be accompanied by<br />

a parent.<br />

Strict supervision of participants will be<br />

maintained at all times. There will be<br />

separate modern, dormitory style lodges<br />

for males and females.<br />
