only known to those who study Tantra, <strong>and</strong> they have<br />

never been systematically emphasized as they are<br />

above.<br />

In practicing the first two kinds of bodhicitta, with<br />

thoughts of impermanence <strong>and</strong> the sorrows of<br />

transmigration, one may practice great compassion<br />

toward sentient beings <strong>and</strong> dharmas; through the third<br />

bodhicitta, sunyata meditation is added, <strong>and</strong> one<br />

practices the great compassion of the same entity with<br />

all sentient beings <strong>and</strong> dharmas. This kind of bodhicitta<br />

is not conditional, <strong>and</strong> one has equal compassion toward<br />

every being <strong>and</strong> thing.<br />

Thus the human mind, which previously acted in a<br />

self-centered psychic sphere, is sublimated by bodhicitta<br />

<strong>and</strong> great compassion <strong>and</strong> becomes the mind of a<br />

bodhisattva, a prince of the Buddha. In this state one<br />

accumulates many holy karmas.<br />

H. Distinguishing Esoteric from Exoteric Doctrines<br />

In order to make this distinction between causal<br />

methods (exoteric) <strong>and</strong> consequential ones (esoteric),<br />

one must be motivated to practice Vajrayana<br />

meditations with the highest right view: that of<br />

non-dualism.<br />

From the above five bodhicittas, one should know that<br />

the last two belong to the Tantra, guided by the highest<br />
