All beings, things, <strong>and</strong> views should be purified—<br />

When all dharmas become pure 'tis patience."<br />

4. Liberated Diligence<br />

To exert one's energies to do good <strong>and</strong> to make every<br />

possible effort to stop evil are worldly merits by which<br />

one does not reach the other shore of nirvana, but if one<br />

follows the teaching below, it will lead there:<br />

"As men are in their nature, so am I;<br />

As dharmas are in nature, so is my Lord—<br />

Knowing there is nothing to gain<br />

Is the real diligence, so high."<br />

5. Liberated Concentration<br />

Sitting straight, thinking of nothing, neither sleepy nor<br />

disturbed in mind—this is a common attitude of<br />

religious persons. It does not abide in the truth unless<br />

one can follow correctly the stanza taught by the<br />

Buddha:<br />

"Mind is not inside<br />

Nor outside, nor abides—<br />

Holds nothing but a void<br />

Dhyana cannot hide."<br />
