single second of disappearing. This is firmness, the<br />

second condition. The firmness should be maintained in<br />

all parts of the m<strong>and</strong>ala, <strong>and</strong> in all activities (not only in<br />

meditation). It may be compared to a wooden image<br />

engraved with a knife: the deeper it is engraved, the<br />

more prominent are the lines.<br />

3. The Holy Pride of Buddhahood<br />

When one has a human body, formed by past evil karma,<br />

one considers oneself to be just a common person. In<br />

Christianity, as a Catholic priest told me, even Jesus had<br />

human nature, but in Tantric Buddhism, human nature is<br />

forbidden to appear. It is for this reason that one keeps<br />

the Buddha's Pride instead of human nature. Human<br />

nature is a seed in the field of the eighth consciousness,<br />

supported <strong>and</strong> nourished by one's own egotism.<br />

However, if sunyata meditations are practiced diligently<br />

<strong>and</strong> the Buddha-body visualizations gradually increased,<br />

the Holy Pride of Buddhahood will eventually be<br />

accomplished. One should think of oneself as initiated<br />

<strong>and</strong> dignified by the wisdom of the yidam. All actions<br />

of one's body, speech, <strong>and</strong> mind are actions like those of<br />

the Buddha who is one's yidam. One should offer peace<br />

where there is war; food where there is hunger; drink<br />

where there is thirst. When meeting anger, pacify it;<br />

grant requests; answer inquiries; cure patients; convert<br />

non-<strong>Buddhist</strong>s; advise sinners; <strong>and</strong> so on. If a lustful<br />

thought arises, one should think, "Would a Buddha still<br />
