Gui Zong then exclaimed, "What a work of the mind<br />

Nan Quan said, "We go back." And so they did not go.<br />

You all go here <strong>and</strong> there—do you go in this way?<br />

Another story: Pang Yun once fell down on the ground,<br />

<strong>and</strong> seeing this, his daughter came <strong>and</strong> purposely fell<br />

down beside him. Said Pang, "Why have you also<br />

fallen?"<br />

His daughter said, "I have just come to save you." Pang<br />

just stood up <strong>and</strong> smiled.<br />

Mr. Chen added, "But if I were Pang Yun, I would<br />

say, 'You are falling into the ordinary condition.'"<br />

Generally we have emphasized that daily life yoga is<br />

subsidiary <strong>and</strong> is always considered after the main<br />

practice, in order to integrate the miscellaneous<br />

activities of life into the main meditation. In the second<br />

section of "Daily Life Yoga," we have seen some<br />

examples in all the three positions, but we must always<br />

keep in mind that true Chan is in the highest position,<br />

that of consequence, as are the examples given here.<br />

When one actually obtains realization of Chan, this will<br />

be found a great Dharma-benefit, but for the practice of<br />

Chan in daily life at least the first three of the four<br />

stages into which I have divided Chan must have been<br />

reached.<br />
