C. Realization<br />

1. Mindfulness<br />

With so many miscellaneous events in life, it is easy to<br />

forget their identity with the principles of daily life<br />

meditation. It is essential, therefore, to maintain<br />

mindfulness to integrate one's endeavors with whatever<br />

main meditations one practices.<br />

2. Progress<br />

It shows very good progress when the daily life<br />

meditations are always mindfully integrated with<br />

whatever one is doing.<br />

3. Habit<br />

The yogi must guard against the disease of<br />

over-familiarity. In this mental attitude, the noble<br />

aspirations <strong>and</strong> the mantras just flow on without any<br />

attention being paid to them, without their having any<br />

real relationship with one's actions. Without<br />

mindfulness, the mind flies off to other things, while the<br />

mantra, etc., may go on being repeated like a cracked<br />

record on a record player. For real daily life practice,<br />

mindfulness is essential while maintaining a high degree<br />

of samatha, or it will not be effective. I have written an<br />

essay on this illness <strong>and</strong> have suggested there many<br />
