11. Ascending <strong>and</strong> Descending<br />

Whether it is stairs, steps, a ladder, or a mountain, with<br />

a mind full of good will think while ascending, "May all<br />

sentient beings, whatever stage of the bodhisattva path<br />

they are on, never fall down!" While descending, think,<br />

"May all the Buddhas <strong>and</strong> bodhisattvas never forget<br />

sentient beings! May they descend from their<br />

transcendental spheres <strong>and</strong> heavens to save them!"<br />

12. Sweeping<br />

Think of all the dirt in the world: "May it be swept away,<br />

<strong>and</strong> no one gather the dirt of the poisons!"<br />

13. Drinking Tea<br />

Say before drinking: "OM AH HUM," <strong>and</strong> take a drop<br />

of it on the fingers, offer it to the Buddhas, <strong>and</strong> then<br />

flick it off. By the mantra, the remainder which one<br />

drinks has become nectar.<br />

14. Eating Rice<br />

One should offer some of it first. Then meditate: "Today<br />

I hold this rice-bowl but even tomorrow I may not be<br />

able to do so." In this way, develop the idea of<br />

impermanence. Also renounce delicious tastes <strong>and</strong><br />
