Mahayana meditator many heavenly women playing<br />

music may awaken the mind. One who practices the<br />

Hinayana will probably not see forms but may hear a<br />

heavenly voice—even that of the Buddha himself.<br />

Anyway, whatever the yogi's stage, a sound will awaken<br />

him, calling: "bhiksu, yogi—so many sentient beings<br />

await salvation; so many good deeds are to be done; so<br />

many Buddhas are waiting to see your Full<br />

Enlightenment—Thus with so much remaining to be<br />

done, get up early!"<br />

A bodhisattva should get up to do the many good<br />

actions necessary in the Saha world, while arhat,<br />

bhiksus must hear the voice of the Buddha calling out to<br />

them: "Wake up to the Mahayana way!" At this time of<br />

the day, a meditator may get some short, powerful, or<br />

even amazing instructions.<br />

2. Opening the Eyes<br />

The eyes must be opened after the mind is thoroughly<br />

awake. During awakening, lie on the back; do not open<br />

the eyes while lying on one side. When the mind is<br />

awake, think to oneself, "The Buddhas, dakinis, <strong>and</strong><br />

gods are so merciful to me; if I were not called by them<br />

I might die in my sleep."<br />

In Hinayana think, "All things are impermanent <strong>and</strong> I<br />

am very fortunate to be able to get up again. Should I<br />
