3. Prostration<br />

a. The object of worship is the same object as that of<br />

taking refuge.<br />

b. One worships with all the sinners of the six realms,<br />

thus gathering merit as with the m<strong>and</strong>ala.<br />

c. When one makes prostration, pride is then eliminated,<br />

as in confession.<br />

4. Confession<br />

a. Before one confesses, one has, of course, the object:<br />

the refuges.<br />

b. When one confesses, one must make prostration, thus<br />

in both ways cutting down pride.<br />

c. When one confesses specific misdeeds the<br />

appropriate offering should be made:<br />

i. Confessing a misdeed of ignorance—offer a lamp<br />

(light dispels darkness).<br />

ii. Confessing a misdeed of greed—offer water (an<br />

abundant substance).<br />

iii. Confessing a misdeed of lust—offer flowers<br />

(beautiful things).<br />
