"All-knowing." He then perceived them as complete.<br />

c. Secretly. Visualize Vajrasattva in the act of<br />

embracing his consort, whether one is personally<br />

practicing the third initiation or not. One obtains<br />

through this meditation the nectar which comes from the<br />

contact of vajra <strong>and</strong> lotus, <strong>and</strong> this washes away all the<br />

sins of mind <strong>and</strong> body.<br />

d. Most Secretly. This is according to the meditation of<br />

Mahamudra. A friend of mine came to me <strong>and</strong> I advised<br />

him: "You have so many sins; you should confess<br />

them." Then he said, "I meditate on Mahamudra, so it is<br />

easy for me to make confession." I said, "Of course, if<br />

you are able to meditate on Mahamudra very properly<br />

then you will be able to do this." However, I thought,<br />

"He has not attained the realization of Mahamudra, <strong>and</strong><br />

without it, how can he confess in this way?" This is the<br />

mistake of taking the position of cause to be the position<br />

of consequence.<br />

The latter two belong to the Vajrayana; the third one is<br />

very important among the four foundational practices.<br />

4. How to Determine Whether the Sin Is Fully<br />

Confessed<br />

a. Outwardly. A meditator may have some dream in<br />

which he sees himself washing in crystal-clear water.<br />
