initiation, repeating <strong>and</strong> visualizing are most important.<br />

After practicing this for many years <strong>and</strong> becoming well<br />

matured <strong>and</strong> realized, it is said that a spiritually great<br />

lama may, when going out riding, place his left foot in<br />

the stirrup <strong>and</strong> the growing yoga of the first initiation is<br />

finished; swinging his right foot over into the other<br />

stirrup, the yoga of perfection (second <strong>and</strong> third<br />

initiation doctrines) is accomplished. So quick may<br />

attainment be! But for this, the preparations must have<br />

been very well carried out.<br />

In the second initiation, the most important practice is<br />

deep breathing, <strong>and</strong> in the third, one uses this breathing<br />

in conjunction with vajra-love. If there is not success in<br />

deep breathing, there will be no attainment in vajra-love.<br />

In the fourth initiation, most important is the tathata of<br />

Mahamudra.<br />

7. How should the yidam be selected? What<br />

Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, etc. may function as<br />

yidams?<br />

8. What is the relationship between meditation on<br />

one's yidam <strong>and</strong> on some other deity?<br />

9. Does one meditate upon the yidam invariably in a<br />

wrathful or invariably in a peaceful form? Does one<br />

stick to form of the yidam?<br />

10. Does one keep to one yidam throughout one's<br />
