Lord Buddha's teeth." His mother was overjoyed. First<br />

she placed it on top of her head <strong>and</strong> then put it in the<br />

family shrine, where she prostrated herself many times.<br />

After that, she had it mounted with the finest gold <strong>and</strong><br />

silver work <strong>and</strong> placed in a little golden bejeweled stupa<br />

(reliquary). Regularly, the old woman worshipped it<br />

with great devotion. She gave much of her time to this<br />

practice, <strong>and</strong> the tooth first began to glow <strong>and</strong> then to<br />

radiate a holy light which all could see.<br />

Such is the power of this practice performed with great<br />

faith.<br />

d. From this prostration practice, devotion is increased<br />

<strong>and</strong> from this one sheds crudeness <strong>and</strong> attachment to<br />

gross pleasures. In turn, from this renunciation arises the<br />

ability to keep one's precepts pure. Thus, a mind of<br />

devotion <strong>and</strong> the performance of these prostrations are<br />

conditions also for maintaining unbroken morality. This<br />

is emphasized not only in Buddhism, but is recognized<br />

in every religion.<br />

e. If one worships with the "great" prostrations, then the<br />

secret wheel is easily opened.<br />

Vajrayana <strong>Buddhist</strong>s performing this strenuous<br />

exercise, we give a short description. For regular<br />

practice it is best to have thick polished planks of<br />

wood made up to the length of one's body plus the<br />
