For those of medium wisdom: Recognize the nature of<br />

persons <strong>and</strong> dharmas as voidness. Having recognized<br />

this, take a method from our book (see Ch. X, Part One)<br />

to make this abstract philosophy into concrete<br />

realization. With the perfect renunciation which is<br />

dem<strong>and</strong>ed by sunyata philosophy, <strong>and</strong> with earnest faith<br />

in the great guru Nagarjuna, begin practice. Faith <strong>and</strong><br />

heartfelt prayer to him, combined with the clarity <strong>and</strong><br />

precision of his sunyata teachings applied to one's life,<br />

will cause Nagarjuna to appear to the practitioner, as he<br />

has done so to many yogis in the past.<br />

Those of low wisdom may safely choose the<br />

meditations on Amitabha (see Ch. XI, D) for with faith<br />

their obstacles may be cleared away. As many examples<br />

testify, Amitabha, Avalokitesvara, <strong>and</strong> Tara may all be<br />

seen in this very life. Meditators then have a good<br />

chance to make swift progress to Enlightenment when<br />

after death they arise in Sukhavati, Amitabha's L<strong>and</strong> of<br />

Bliss.<br />

"This is the Kali Age, when very few good gurus are<br />

to be found." With tears in his eyes, the yogi said:<br />

"It is sad indeed that the Dharma has only become<br />

established now in the West, now when it is so late.<br />

For Westerners, I fear it may be difficult to find<br />

accomplished gurus. Still," said Mr. Chen very<br />

strongly, "it is for readers first to reduce their<br />
