some little chicks of the same metal. These were offered<br />

to me so that I could sell them <strong>and</strong> become rich. But I<br />

had enough food, <strong>and</strong> if I possessed wealth I might<br />

easily be killed by robbers. Later, I asked the local<br />

inhabitants, "Is there any tradition of a golden chicken<br />

<strong>and</strong> chicks buried under that mountain?" "Yes" was<br />

their reply.<br />

I have refused many such things offered to me for they<br />

would only prove a hindrance. Now, instead of being<br />

delayed by such worldly discoveries, many instructions<br />

of the Dharmakaya have occurred in my meditations.<br />

These are to me more valuable than the many<br />

discoveries of vajras, images, <strong>and</strong> so on, made by sages<br />

in Tibet. It is true that they do not keep such things <strong>and</strong><br />

give them to some holy shrine for veneration, but if we<br />

have the highest goal of Full Enlightenment as our aim,<br />

we should then put aside these matters.<br />

d. Becoming a Leader Too Soon. Certainly one should<br />

become a guru of others, <strong>and</strong> the Mahayana emphasis<br />

on this matter is excellent; but in Vajrayana it is said,<br />

"First attain Full Enlightenment, <strong>and</strong> then ultimately<br />

save others." To be a leader of too many, too soon, may,<br />

instead of leading to spiritual progress, lead to the<br />

downfall of the leader <strong>and</strong> the stagnation of his<br />

followers.<br />

These four obstacles have been gathered from my own<br />

experiences <strong>and</strong> have not been discussed by any of the<br />
