exhalations. When one counts the number of breaths,<br />

count slowly, only counting the inhalations.<br />

Slightly digressing, the yogi instructed:<br />

When the inhalations are made a little longer than the<br />

out-breaths, this is good for long life. Regular, slow<br />

counting of the breaths is necessary <strong>and</strong> if a mistake is<br />

made, one should start counting that series again.<br />

The yogi added:<br />

As regards lying down, always lie on one's right side<br />

(the position adopted by the Buddha), as this also is<br />

helpful in obtaining long life. Only lie on the left side<br />

when too much food has been taken, in order to aid<br />

digestion.<br />

These are some examples, but for every reader there<br />

must be some special treatment for their particular<br />

poisons. It is best to take the advice of one's guru on this<br />

matter, as he will know all one's temptations <strong>and</strong> their<br />

correct treatment.<br />

We see from the above that temptations not only come<br />

from sicknesses <strong>and</strong> demons, but also can be products of<br />

our own mental states.<br />
