The first eye is visualized inside the skull as being in the<br />

position corresponding to the point between the<br />

eyebrows outside. It is a wrathful wisdom-eye, blue in<br />

color. The meditator uses this eye to look up at the<br />

palace.<br />

b. Second day. Visualize two eyes inside the skull,<br />

whose inner positions correspond to the two outer eyes.<br />

These inner eyes are also wrathful <strong>and</strong>, radiating many<br />

colors, stare at the back of the skull where two more<br />

eyes are visualized. The two in the back of the skull are<br />

like caves or openings <strong>and</strong> seem very bright <strong>and</strong><br />

transparent.<br />

c. Third day. Visualize the eyes mentioned in the above<br />

two days' samapatti; that is, the three eyes in the front<br />

staring across the palace to the eyes in the back. An<br />

extra eye in the back should be visualized to make up<br />

three pairs.<br />

d. Fourth day. The three eyes in the front <strong>and</strong> those in<br />

the back are seen to be turning to look at each other <strong>and</strong><br />

from each one come rays of light. This visualizing<br />

process completes the first stage.<br />

The second begins when the light rays from each pair of<br />

eyes meet. Then the whole body is filled with light as if<br />

from a rainbow.<br />

e. Fifth day. Visualize a purple-colour mani (jewel) in<br />
